Info on Praia D'el Ray Marriott in Obidos

Does anyone have any information they can share about this resort and the surrounding area. I haven't been able to find too much as I believe it is relatively new. I understand they have a nice golf course. Is the beach at the resort swimmable? If so, during what months? We've never been to Portugal, so any advice would be appreciated. We'll probably be limited to 1 week. Just the wife and myself. We like activities and adventures, but also want some quiet relaxing time (why we're considering the beach resort in Obidos). Thanks so much for all your help.

I guess you have the resort URL, but there it it just in case http://www.lisbonhotels.org/forview/...ch-resort.html
The area is hosting English soccer team from next week to middle of July (for Euro2004). If you watch sports programs in television, you'll likely see images of the resort.
Praia del Rey is very quiet, because is not close to any major roads or town centers. Expect a pinetree forest on sand soil, with dunes rolling to the beach. The neighbourhood consists of summer houses of Lisnonites looking for some relax.
If you enjoy beach leisure, you can't choose better. There are plenty of beaches, the most famous are around Baleal, a village that is an island during high tide and a peninsula during low tide.
The beach is swimmable from June up to mid Sepetember. You should expect water temperatures to be around 19 or 20 C. Not like the Algarve where water temperature ranges between 22, 23 C.
Attractions in this area are the walled historical town of Obidos and the fishing village of Peniche. From Peniche you may take the ferry through the (usually) troubled waters to the Island of Berlengas. A popular attraction in Peniche is watching the arrival of fishing boats about midnight. To go to Obidos or Peniche you need a car.
If you enjoy grilled fish and soup fish, you?ll be in heaven.

Dear Lobo. Never having been to Portugal before, we are considering a trip in late Oct.
We would like to enjoy the beach. It is not necessary that the water be that warm to swim, but we would enjoy just sitting on the beach and enjoying some mild weather.
Could you please give me some suggestions about destinations to help to start to plan our trip?
We like beautiful scenery, and are looking for a relaxing two weeks. We would probalby not want to change rooms more than two or three times at the most. We like nice restaurants, but are not into nightlife.
I just do not know where to start and any help would be greatly appreciated. We often rent a car in Europe so that is a possiblility for us but is not a mandatory requirement.
Thank you.

Dear Sher
I'll try to elaborate by week end. Meanwhile I recommend www.discoverportugal2day.com as the best site on Portugal.

It's never too late to correct a mistake. The football (soccer) national team hosted in Praia del rei Marriott in Obidos is Switzerland.
England is hosted in Linda a Velha in the outskirts of Lisbon.
