Inexpensive way to phone London?
Reviewing some London info I saved I found a post from Nov 2002 on an inexpensive way to phone the UK. Has anyone used this number and can verify it's really true?

marciab wrote:
use 1016868 to call London. 7.9 cents a minute. You can make a lot of overseas calls at that rate. You just dial that access number, then dial as you normally would. It gets billed on your local phone service.
It works in most but not every last part of the USA. Try it and if it works, you have it.

Incidentally, there are even cheaper ones. Check out 1016400 on the web...it may be half the price.

Heads up! I found info that some of the 1010 numbers now have a monthly fee. Called the service folks at the ones I used (1010 636 or 1010 811), and sure enough there is a $2.95 basic monthly charge for each month in which you use the number. So I went to www.10-10phonerates.com and compared my needs with the rates listed there. Ended up with Everdial (www.everdial.com), which has low per minute inter-state,intra-state and international rates, no monthly fee and charges in six-second increments. And you don't have to dial a1010 *** access code.

No, I don't work for Everdial!

Oops...there's a slight error in that 1010 URL. It should be www.1010phonerates.com (no spaces). Also forgot to say that the monthly service fee was originated in February 2003.

There are other websites that may be useful. I typed "dial around" into Google. Check it out.
