Inexpensive Venice Hotels

Daughter and boyfriend will be in Venice for 3 nights the last week in September. They are looking for a decent hotel for under $200/night. Last time we were there as a family we stayed in Casa Verardo but it's above their budget. Any suggestions?

Zaguri has a great location near the water taxi & has a fairly lenient cancellation policy (for Venice). Check their reviews on TripAdvisor.

Just looked at Casa Verardo 3* in Castello where you stayed at last time. The rate for a night (on 27 Sep) is USD 246.00, non refundable rate, breakfast included. Is that too much of over their budget? Of course also they have to pay €3.00 (at least) per person per day as city tax.

As you might know, September is high season in Venice so the hotel prices are as high.

Ca' Centopietre in Dorso Duro ( an area quieter than, San Marco ) has one room left on Booking at USD 165.00 per night, double room incl. breakfast. And this can be cancelled without charge. Have never stayed there myself but heard good things about it. I have stayed at Hotel La Forcola 3* and B&B Locanda Herion, both in Cannaregio. Their double room are also from USD 165.00. I had a larger room at Herion.

Also my friends really liked Ca' Bragadin e Carabba. Their price is USD 180.00 on Booking. In Castello but not far from San Marco. I thought it would be more expensive than that. Decor is more luxurious than the two I mentioned above, more Venetian maybe....

We just booked the Ca' dei Nobile for 5 nights over the Christmas holidays for 553€. Haven't been yet, obviously, but it looks lovely and gets great reviews.

I absolutely loved Palazzo Odoni. It was €147 per night when we were there in July (booked on booking.com months in advance). I just looked for prices for a random date for Sept and it's listed as €279 but perhaps their dates might be less. If not, I guess July really isn't the busiest time to go to Venice.

Stayed here some years ago, but still going strong -- quiet, quaint, very reasonable and steps from Accademia Bridge: Hotel Agli Alboretti -- Just checked, double rooms for 3 nights at under 500E in Sept. Excellent location to walk to San Marco, Guggenheim, Ca D'oro. Walk right around past Accademia Gallery back to Taverna San Trovaso for dinner, also very reasonable and off the Grand Canal.

Isabel, july august is shoulder season for Venice vs september that's high season so no surprise the same hotel costs a lot more in september.

We found www.hotelrossi.ve.it to be reasonable on two occasions. Check for your dates. Not everybody's favorite location - we liked it for the easy walking access to boats and trains, but it's not in a "romantic" spot.

St Sirq we are also spending 10 days in Venice over the holidays this year - interested in meeting for a festive beverage?

We stayed in the Domus Ciliota last year. It's in an ex-convent, and is clean and comfortable, with air-conditioning and an elevator. It's on a quiet street in San Marco, a short walk from many things they'll want to see. The double rooms cost less than €200.

Jamikins, we would LOVE to meet up with you. I haven't absolutely finalized our plans because the train schedules aren't available yet, but it looks like we willl be in Venice from December 22 (late afternoon) until December 27 (late afternoon).

Let's do it!

Take a look at the Hotel Canada. We stayed there about 15 years ago. The location was perfect for us as it was so close to to things. It is not fancy, but it was clean and worked well for us. The reviews look to be about the same, but some people complain about grumpy staff, so take that for what it is. Read the reviews and see if it may work, as it is within the price range you mentioned.

StCirq why don't you email me at Jamie dot shearer at Mondrian dot com we will be there from 24 Dec - 2 Jan...lets make it happen!

Sorry to hijack the thread!

Thank you so very much for all the great suggestions! Will check them all out. It's always tempting to go a little over budget but they have 9 nights total in Europe and things start to add up.

I don't know how you feel about an apartment, but this past May we stayed here (AirBnB) and loved it:

https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/341252

Pros:

-- great location close to S Marco and vaporetto

-- beautiful apartment with 2 BR & 2 baths

-- reasonable price. (Cost us $600 for four nights, but may be more in September.)

Cons:

-- you can't drop luggage off before check in like in a hotel (this was a pain)

-- you'll likely have to do some grocery shopping for breakfast...but there is a full-service market less than a 10-min walk away, and it was kind of fun shopping with the locals.

-- you'll need your phone working on arrival to contact the owner for meeting place & time...not a real problem, just a heads-up for you.
