Inexpensive transportation from Heathrow into London
 

What is the least expensive way to travel from Heathrow to the Hyde Park area? Our Travelcard/Oyster only needs zones 1-3 with the exception of Heathrow. Also our arrival and departure dates are 8 days apart and we will only need a 7 day card. If we get airport transportation independent of the travelcard, it may be more cost efficient. Any suggestions?

Use the underground (Piccadilly line)it will only cost you £4 single. it will take about 45 mins to Hyde Park Corner

It's very easy to use the underground into London. there are signs all over in the airport that guide you to the underground. We each had a suitcase and carry on and a small backpack. Very easy and cheap.

Everyone is lugging suitcases on and off the underground and every stop so you definitely will not be alone. And from what we saw, there appears to be an escalator or elevator at every station, at least the ones we traveled through for the week, so that will be a help with the suitcases if you need it.

If you get a travelcard for your zones at Heathrow, the add-on for Heathrow will be cheaper still.

Even the National Express bus to Victoria coach station is £5 (and it's not particularly convenient unless you're arriving at terminals 1, 2 or 3 and staying somewhere near Victoria coach station).

But getting a travelcard at LHR (or any Tube station) won't allow you to use the offers on www.daysoutguide.com.

For that you'd have to buy the Travelcard at a train station booking office - eg Victoria

I think you mentioned earlier about buying your oyster card before leaving home...it's not necessary as you will have to see a clerk anyway....the charge for the oyster card is £3 refundable deposit, it was noted £30.20 for zones 1 to 3 (although if you're staying near Hyde Park, zones 1 & 2 probably are sufficient,....they will also add extension amounts to the card...if you have a zone 1 & 2 card, the extension is £2 for peak periods (0630-0930 and 1600 - 1900 weekdays....otherwise it is £1.10...on the eighth day assuming the trip to Heathrow is the only activity you will pay the sngle oyster fare from zone 1 to zon3 6 if I read it right here....that would be £3.80 peak (hours noted above( and £2.20 non peak...the difficulties some people say about using the tube from Heathrow are IMHO exagerated...it'll work fine.

Get your Travelcard for the 2-for-1 specials. Buy a single trip ticket for Heathrow to your stop, done! The counter is right near the trains and they are experts on telling you exactly what you'll need and how to do it most inexpensively. It's far less work than any other transport option.
