Inexpensive Room Frankfurt/Main

My wife and I land at Frankfurt airport on Sept 2. We leave via train the next morning. We are solicting advice as to an inexpensive hotel or Zimmer for 1 night at a location not too far from the train station.
Thanks in advance.

Try Mainz (if it is on the right train line). It is 20 mins by train directly from the station in Frankfurt airport, and there are several nice-looking hotels on the main plaza across from Mainz station.

I stayed in one that had `Tulip' in the name, and it was great.

The "Paris Hotel" Frankfurt Main is about 200 yards from the central station, about USD 90 a night twin, Eurpa I think abot USD 100 also near the station, if you can manage about USD 140 then the Concorde Hotel is opposite the station, try www.planeurope.com/frankfurt_hotels.html quite a lot of choice

The Savoy is another opposite the station around the USD 80-90 region

Well, my very quick look at rail maps suggests you can go

Mainz-Stuttgart-Singen-Konstanz
or
Frankfurt-Stuttgart-Singen-Konstanz,
either way you make two changes.

(You might want to check travel times on a rail travel website).

I don't remember the hotel price exactly, but it was probably around $100 a night, say, 2 years ago. Mainz is a pretty town with a nice pedestrian-only center.

Mainz is very close to FRA and a major hub for trains heading south. It's a good choice for a place to catch your breath coming or going. See the Dom, the old town behind it, and the pretty "Stadtpark" (nice grounds, with Biergarten.)

The Ibis is cheap and clean and right next to the "Mainz Sud" station, the first S-Bahn stop in Mainz. On 9/3, you can take the S-Bahn again from here to the main ("Hbf") Mainz station for your train to Konstanz.

Thanks for the responses.
Mainz sounds like a good approach.
We will be bringing our boxed bicycles and reassembling them in the airport. We will then ride them into Frankfurt or Mainz. Any idea of how far from FRA to Mainz city center and what route to take? Thanks

www.bikeaccess.net has directions for biking from Frankfurt airport to Mainz.

Click on the `Airports' tab, then Germany, then Frankfurt.

Two weeks ago I spent a night at Holiday Inn Frankfurt Airport. I booked it via www.hotels.de at only 35 Euro, without breakfast (this is 17 Euro - bufet).
The hotel is 10 min. from airport and there is a free shuttle t / from airport. At the airport there is also the railways station, so, netc morning you can take the shuttle to airport for train.
