Inexpensive Paris Hotel?

I have posted before about going to Florence and Paris in September and the help from Fodorites has been awesome!
Because of your help I have reserved a place in Florence (B&B Peterson) and now am working on Paris. Has anyone stayed at Hôtel Bastille de Launay. I haven't finalized the reservation. Ok area? Ok hotel? any other cheap suggestions. Would like to stay in central part of Paris as I am on my own and completely new at this.

Thanks in advance.

Hotel Monge in the Latin Quarter is nice, convenient, and has air-conditioning. The rooms are small, very clean, and comfortable. It's a good, affordable option.

We stayed at Hotel L'esperance in the 5th a couple of years ago. It's right off rue Mouffetard and we were able to walk just about everywhere (but we're big walkers, YMMV). It was about 80 euros/night. http://www.hoteldelesperance.fr/

What is "cheap"?

Cheap is less than 80 Euros @ day. The more "less" the better. The more money I don't have to spend on lodging the more I can spend on exploring and experiencing Paris.

Only been to Paris once, but we were very pleased with Hotel Des Mines. It's just south of Luxembourg Gardens and a few blocks from the Metro. I think the fact that it's just outside the trendy/well known neighborhoods allows it to have cheap rooms. It's a charming little budget place.

Venere.com is a great resource to look for other options as well.

Grand Hotel des Balcons, 6e, cost me E85 per night in May as a single. Liked the hotel and neighbourhood.

If you are considering Hôtel Bastille de Launay and that area you might as well consider Hotel Cosmos (I haven't stayed there, but it's well-recommended) and Comfort Hotel Bastille (well-recommended recently).

Try Regent's Hotel on Rue Madame

Dont confuse with Hotel Regent on Rue Dauphine - that is pricey.

Check out Hôtel Jeanne d'Arc in the Marais. They may have rooms for as little as E60. Great location. The parishotels.com website lists many hotels. You can check availability instantly for no fee.

I second the suggestion from Jeff_. The Hotel Jeanne d'Arc is about as good as you can get for the price. It's worth more, but don't tell them.

Jeanne D'Arc is a gem - but probably too late to find a room there. I am also a Monge fan but think it is too late to book there as well. But you might be lucky!

The really good and cheap hotels book up pretty far in advance, but you might have some luck. You're waiting very late to make this reservation, though. I usually stay in an Ibis hotel when I'm in Paris ... preferably the Ibis Bastille-Opera, but it's going to be around 90 euros per night, but this hotel always books up because of its relatively good location. The Ibis Paris Menilmontant-Père Lachaise is usually 79 to 89 euros per night and is always cheaper on weekends than during the week. I like these hotels because, though they are basic and chains, they are pretty good and offer a reasonable amount of comfort for the price (as well as a really good buffet breakfast). Good luck.

Hotel de Suex is in the Latin Quarter and starts at around 80 E for single. It was a great location and nice.

I stayed at the St. Andre des Arts in the 6th...its a little shabby but the area was wonderful. I'd stay there again. On the other hand, last October we stayed at the Monceau Wagram for $75 a night (double). Its in the 17th and a couple of blocks to the metro and the Champs. It included breakfast (coffee, juices, yogurt, cereal, milk, breads, some cold cuts and cheeses)

My suggestions was also Hotel Monge, but I don't believe it is quite that cheap. Would you be willing to look into hostels?

kerouac Aug 2nd, 2007 09:32 AM

Going down in price is the modern Etap Hôtel (www.etaphotel.com) at metro Laumière in the 19th for 55€. Modern hotel, satellite TV, adequate facilities in an interesting neighborhood near the Parc de la Villette, the Buttes Chaumont and the Canal Saint Martin. Unlimited buffet breakfast for 5€.
