Inexpensive Lodging in Vienna
 

Does anyone have any suggestions for inexpensive lodging in close proximity to City Centre in Vienna?

Chris, <BR>For inexpensive lodging you might consider broadening your horizons beyond city center. Vienna has a superb transportation system. In addition to its subway system it has over 200 bus routes that can get you anywhere you want in short notice. You'll get recommendations for reasonable accommodations here; don't be put off if they're not in the shadow of St. Stephen's and the Opera House.

We stayed in Vienna for about a week back in 1992. We had a return visit two years ago and were pleased to find the place we stayed in '92 was still functioning. This site was the Pension Suzanne, Walfischgasse 4, Vienna 1010. The pension is only about a long block from the Opera House, an excellent location, we felt, and a place that we can recomment without hesitation. Sorry, but I don't remember the rates. We were in Vienna last summer and stayed at the Pension Neuer Markt, right in the heart of the old City. In general, we find the best accommodations via Rick Steves' recommendations in his guide books--that is where we learned about this place. There were many travelers there not from the United States, evidence that Europeans were staying there also.

Last Nov, I was in Vienna for a day. I used a hotel service in the train station. I think I stayed at "Am Opernik" pension. It was maybe a block from the Opera House. The rate was about $70 for 2 people, with a light breakfast delivered to your room. The room was nice, with private bath. <BR> <BR>I probably have more info at home, if you're interested.

We too have taken the advice of Rick Steves and stayed at the Pension Nossek in Vienna on two ocassions and enjoyed it very much - right in the center and convenient to everything at a reasonable price.
