Inexpensive Lodging in Athens
Does anyone know of an inexpensive place to stay in Athens? We will be there for a couple of nights in June and then again in July between island hopping. We would like to be near or in the Plaka. We prefer not to stay in a hostel. Thanks.

We stayed at the Attalos Hotel as have several others who contribute to this forum. It's very close to the Plaka. They have a website, so you could do a search for them. Room was small, of course, but we had air conditioning, TV, and a view of the Acropolis from our balcony.

Hi Mary Anne, I stayed at the Hotel Apollo when I was in Athans 3 years ago. It is very basic, but has bath in room. I think that it was about $50.00 per night for a double. It was a very short walk to the Plaka (about 1 1/2 blocks) and the rooftop resturante had a nice view of the Acropolis and the city.

I second the Attalos. We stayed there a couple of years ago and had a nice room w/balony and views of both Lycabettus Hill and the Acropolis. The desk personnel were helpful and one clerk looked just like Mel Gibson (a definite plus)!

I think we paid about $30 for a room w/twin beds, bath, a/c.

Sandy

Count my vote for the Attalos, we were there last month, and got a room with a view of the Acropolis. It was very close to the Plaka and under $40.00 per night. I would stay there again.

I too vote for the Attalos. You can't beat the price or location. And the rooms are spotless.....

I, too, vote for the Attalos. 11,000 drachmas for a single room with private bathroom, in March
