Inexpensive Internet in Florence
 

Looking for help on finding inexpensive internet locations in Florence Italy. I read somewhere that a library in Florence actually offers free use of terminals for one hour, but I can't find the info.

I'm not sure about the public library having free internet, but my last couple of trips to Florence, I used Internet Train (which is not an actual train, but a "storefront"):

Some hotels offer free internet. I know the Pendini had a computer in the lobby guests could use. Other ones have free wifi.

Dazedandconfused, I am aware of the "Train" locations. But they are very high priced; I think close to 5 Euro per hour. Ouch.

Also, I am staying in a rented apartment so the hotel internet will not be a possibility.

I hope someone knows of an inexpensive internet location in Florence.

I used an Internet Cafe at Via Faenza (49) very close to the Train Station Santa Maria Novella called Internet Point Caironet. I paid 1 Euro for half-hour with was mnore than enough to update my FB status :-D and check email(s). It was the only one locals seemed to know; a bit surprised that, unlike Rome, Internet cafes are not widely available around Florence old centro storico.

BTW, to be more precise Via Faenza is nestled between Via Nationale (which runs front SMN Station) and Via San Antonino; 49 locale is kitty-corner with Via Nationale.

I don't think there are as many internet cafes now as there were 10 years ago (many have closed in Rome).

You might try some of the bars on this list for free wifi, but keep in mind it won't be secure.

viajero: That one has been around over ten years. It's not expensive.

OK, don't criticize me for my ignorance in new technology...but we have one of those stick things you plug into the laptop...my husband is the techie not me.... and it works well.

kybourbon is correct. Internet cafes are few and far between now. It used to be that bars had a computer stuck in a corner but you don't see them or internet cafes as much.

wifi has been the death of internet cafes in Europe. I'm getting an iPad with both 3G and wifi capabilities for our next trip. On our last two trips, I was stuck with only my Kindle and its really difficult browser, but found access all over the place...even way out in the countryside.

I agree that Wi-fi appears almost everywhere. The last Italian hotel I stayed in offered use of a laptop or "hardwire" connectivity "on request". But with the proliferation of netbooks, laptops, and iPads, most of Europe seems to have wireless connectivity.
