Inexpensive hotels

My girlfriend and I are looking for inexpensive hotels in safe neighborhoods and as close to everything as possible. But isn't everyone. We will be in Rome, Florence and Venice in January 2002. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In Roma try the Hotel Italia Pensione. Right off Via Natzionale but in a quiet neighborhood and convenient to everything. I've stayed there twice, the first time on the recommendation of Rick Steves. http://www.hotelitaliaroma.com/

In Rome try Hotel Forte, near the Spanish Steps and Piazza de Spagna metro stop. About $90/double (they may be having a special winter offer, even lower price), includes breakfast.

Try the venere.it site for great info, including weblinks to dozens of Rome hotels.

Hi

I have pushed this a few times, for Venice - Albergo Corona.

Cheap & Cheerful, good neighborhood (I don't think Venice has a bad one actually). It's small but very clean. not the Ritz, but quite adequate.

It's in Rick Steves 1999 Italy book...

Beth
