Inexpensive Hostel/Hotel in Venice
My boyfriend and I are taking our first trip to Italy in April. We're looking for a fairly inexpensive hotel or hostel in Venice. Hoping to spend $75 or under per night, if at all possible. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

In April - as in next month?
If so I think you may find that the pickings are very slim so late in the game. I would go to the Rough guide or similar and get info on hostels - but for your price you will each get a bed in a dorm room in a hostel. Perhaps someone knows a simple pension with the bath down the hall that would have a room left. |
Try a youth hotel on Giudecca Island. April next month, if it's the Easter weekend, would be more difficult to find availability. Also the rates would be high.

You could try Camping Fusina, it's across the water from Venice and only a short boat trip. (and a nice trip) We stayed there a couple of years ago and really liked it. http://www.camping.it/english/veneto/fusina/prezzi.aspx

Casadellacorte.com San Marco BB pretty cheap Otel.com has good deals in the city in April booked hotelpausania.it $59 euro great deal do not stay at Fusina a dump far away from Venice Lido has nice cheap hotels 10 minute boat ride away like Rieter great views of Venice if you cannot make anything else work.. do splurge a bit for central location if you can eurocheapo.com Venice excellent budget city lodging guides Happy Hunting, |
In any case, it would be good to know which dates in April you are hoping to stay in Venice.

It will be Monday, April 25th (Easter monday night) and probably Tuesday night. Thanks for your help!

I stayed twice at the Bernardi Semenzato (www.hotelbernardi.com)and liked both times. Another alternative, maybe a little more expensive but with a better location and an interesting atmosphere is La Residenza (www.venicelaresidenza.com).

Easter? Mmm, try Mestre @-)

NewToItaly,
I don't know how your research is going and/or whether you are finding availability....but there is a very good option of staying outside of Venice. We have twice stayed at Vanessa House in Martellago. Here's the link to both Vanessa House, and to TripAdvisor so you can get some reviews: http://www.vanessahouse.it/VanessaHouse.htm http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...go_Veneto.html (my review is on TA so you can see more detail there). The advantage for you is that there is likely availability. They are a few minutes from the Mestre train station, and will bring you there and pick you up each day. The trip into Venice is 1 Euro, and it's the next stop. So very easy and very convenient. We really like this place (so do others as you will see from the reviews). In any event, it might be just the solution for you (and well within your price range). Happy Travels, LisaG |
I told you. You are not only going next April but also at the end of Easter weekend. Also due to a rather low budget you say, you cannot be very picky but need to hurry. Try to the following site (or any other booking site) and see what available.

Venice IS expensive. If you can afford a splurge there, it's worth it to stay in the city proper, not on the mainland. Living in a city with no trucks and cars, just boats on the canals, is a unique experience. But Venice can get awfully crowded during the day with day-trippers. So it's nice to be there at night and in the early morning.
