inexpensive eateries around the Tower
 

I am looking for recommendations for interesting, inexpensive places to eat lunch or dinner in the Tower of London area that serve more tradional English fare (including pubs).

We went to aloe a food court across from the Tower and the food was so awful. I love steak and kidny pie and while tat ws waht I ordered, that was a sorry excuse for one. So stay away from that. Wish I could remember its name, but it wan't a proper pub.

You could try the Liberty Bounds on Trinity Square, a Wetherspoon bank conversion pub. Classy looking place, real beer, non-smoking areas, somewhat institutional food, but the soup and sandwich for lunch are fine.

Walk to the left of the Tower area to St. Katherine's Dock (Marina)when you exit Tower Hill Tube stop. Dickens Pub is located there (not exactly inexpensive, but it's a pretty building with flower baskets hanging from it, etc.) The Marina is a lovely area (hardly anyone every finds it I think, we happened to stay in an apt. there last trip so I know about it) It's a bit of a walk from Tower Hill Tube (or Bus #15)but once there very nice. There is also an Indian restuarant there, a pastry shop, several other smaller stores, etc. Dickens Pub is supposedly quite well-known.

Dennis <BR> <BR>If you want traditional British try The Butlers Wharf Chop House. It is just the other side of Tower Bridge, facing the Thames, pabout a 5 min walk across the bridge. The restaurant is quite expensive but the "bar" area does a 3 course set menu for about £10, you get a choice of 3-4 items per course. If you go for dinner you need to get there before 6.00pm, before all the city types take all the tables (I dont think they take reservations in the bar). I think there are 2 restaurants (one for pizza) plus a bar menu. It's been a while since I've been there so they may have changed it, but it is a lovely pub/restuarant. <BR> <BR>For a traditional British roast carvery, try the one at the Tower Thistle (close to the Dickins Inn). It's more expensive but is an all you can eat and I remember the food was lovely.
