inexpensive Amsterdam train station hotel

Will be in Amsterdam in August. Any inexpensive hotels near the train station?

Define inexpensive. Define which train station.

Centraal Station - an IBIS is practically part of the station - www.accorhotels.com - about as cheap as any in central Amsterdam and a modern hotel.

I'll be coming in by train from London. I assume it will stop at Amsterdam's central station.
As for inexpensive, about $100 per night.

$100 night for a single? May be tough right near station - for a decent hotel that is. The IBIS will be as cheap as any I suspect.

I might very well go with the IBIS. I stayed with them before elsewhere and it's a decent mid level hotel.

Some hotel booking sites have for $112/night - great deal for that area.

<<it's a decent mid level hotel.>>

Ibis has three different levels of hotels. They are all priced differently and have different amenities. Check which you are looking at near the train station.

Join Accor's loyalty program and get 10% off if you book direct. Their site has the hotel for a random date in August for €124 including breakfast, non member rate.
Remember that the prices quoted won't include tourist tax, which is quite high in Amsterdam, about €7 pppn I believe.

We have stayed at The Hotel The Exchange right in that area. I looked at a few random August dates and it looks like rooms are a tad above your ideal budget, but they did have rooms for 136 euro. The hotel was clean and well kept, and very close to the train station. We did not have any complaints about it, FWIW.
