Inexpensive Accommodation in London

I'm trying to find London accommodation preferably in Bloomsbury area for 13nights. My budget is about GBP60 per night and I'm travelling alone. Any suggestions is much appreciated. Thanks a lot!

By the way, has anyone stayed in Morgan Hotel lately?

try looking on travelstay.com
I will be using them for my trip next summer (unless someone can provide better) for a hotel that costs a lot and that I will be getting for 30 pounds. Hopefully it's legit.

Good luck.

Just in the last couple of days there have been some posts about the Morgan...my favorite hotel in London. Do a search on Morgan and you will find them.

Evelyn in Bloomsbury there is an entire block of budget hotels on Bedford Place. St. Margarets and Haddon Hall Hotel come to mind. These are perfect for the budget minded tourist. Also the location is great. There is a hotel also on that street called the Lonsdale (avoid it like the plague). Best of luck on your planning.

There is a row of small hotels on Cartwright Gardens that are pretty reasonable (if you don't mind stairs). Some that come to mind are: George, Crescent, Avalon, Euro. They are fairly convenient to the tube, food, internet access. The gardens aren't much, but the street is quiet.

I prefer the converted townhouse style of small hotels (like these), but remember the cheaper ones don't have elevators and may have cramped bathrooms.

Here's a really good search tool for budget lodging in London and the U.K.:

http://www.smoothhound.co.uk/index.html

Happy Contrails! :o)

I've stayed several times on Cartwright Gardens (which the other poster mentioned), it's a very nice street with the basics (including good pub <g>) close by. The Euro is clean and decent (don't get a basement room though and the singles are tinier than tiny, although if the hotel is not full they may put you in a double) and nicer than the George, and the Mentone is a bit nicer than the Euro (their singles are nicer, although the staff is less friendly). I haven't stayed there myself but I hear the Harlingford on the same block is the nicest of all the hotels there, but that may be a bit over your budget.

I just saw my old "London of 5 Dollars a Day" book that I bought for the first time that I went to London in 1970. Let me look and see what you can get for that price range.

Suggest you try www.londontown.com. You didn't say when you will be visiting London, but I found several nice hotels with single rooms around your price range in Feburary.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I have managed to find a nice Studio Apartment in Bloomsbury. However, I need to pay a deposit first and the full payment weeks before my arrival. I wasn't sure about this arrangement. Could someone advise. Thanks and best regards.

Good work! I usually use an American Express card (if possible) for arrangements like that, although I'm sure other cards would do. That way, you have some recourse if there are problems. As a practical matter, I've never had to go back to make recoveries.

Oh, my gosh, Katherine, it seems you and I had the same bad experience with The Londsdale in Bloomsbury!! I could not get out of London fast enough after staying at this hotel for two days (originally reserved for four days). I gather management still as bad as in 1997.
