indian food in london

I searched for this but found some older posts not particularly helpful. Would appreciate any suggestions on good Indian food in London. Pricey or not. Thanks for any help.

New Tayyabs is supposed to be one of the very best cheap places for great Indian food (Pakistani Punjabi food). Hardens restaurant guide rates Ragam as best cheap place but it's not got great decor. At the other end Amaya rates highest for food but Benares and Rasoi are also meant to be great.

Back in 2003 our group ate at HasonRaja, on Southampton Row near Bloomsburry Square Gardens, Indian and Bagladeshi cuisine. You can see it today on google maps. The food was good and cheap. I liked it very much.

We had a very good dinner at Tayyab. Interesting area, too.

Another vote for Tayyab.

Since it is a byob place -- they don't serve -- I would suggest you bring your wine or beer along from wherever else in London you may be staying. The wine selection in the immediate area is strictly wino level. If you decide this is too much trouble, the mango lassis are great!

Perfect. This is very helpful.

Our favourite place is the Bengal Clipper in Shad Thames (south side of the river, just east of the Tower Bridge) http://www.bengalclipper.co.uk/

Lots of indian restaurants (a lot veggie) on Drummond Street. Nearest tube Euston Square. Where locals eat.

Tayyabs is very good but they don't take reservations, so you may have to queue.

Tarquin -- are you sure about the booking? We reserved ahead online before we went, two years ago, and the reservation was honored even though we were a bit late.
