Increased Rome budget lodigng
I recently posted a recomendation for lodging in Rome- but now have increased my budget to $200 US, please advise, good location. Thank you!!! |
We recently returned from Rome and a European tour. While there we stayed at the Hotel San Carlo just off the Piazza Di Spagna. It was very small, but clean, newer furnishings. I prefer to call it cozy, and I loved it. No elevator but we didn't mind. They deliver your bags to your room so that was not an issue for us. We just received our VISA bill and with the exchange it was $1122 for six nights or $187/night. They serve a continental breakfast in the morning either in the breakfast room or in your room. Take it in your room as the breakfast room is way too small and very crowded. Hope this helps.

We just booked an apartment through www.sleepinitaly.com (there are tons of other good sites if you search on google for Rome and apartment or apartments). I haven't been yet but an apartment was a better idea for us because we're two couples travelling with two small children. The apartments also seem to be more economical so you might consider checking them out. We chose Trastevere but they have listings for whatever area interests you. Good luck. Tory

I thought the Dei Mellini was nice and in a good location.

We planned our stay in Rome over the weekend. Many hotels offer weekend rates. We booked a 4 star hotel thru either travelocity or expedia and it was much cheaper than staying on weekdays. We stayed at the Barberini. It was very nice and offered a very good breakfast included in the rate. The bath was all new and very clean. We paid right around $200 a night (that was a few weeks ago). It is not in a touristy area and there is a metro stop (Barberini) a few minute walk away. I would stay there again. The staff was very helpful and kind - spoke good english too!

I think the Pantheon/Piazza Navona area is the best location. I've stayed there, Spanish Steps area and Termini area and have found it to be the most centrally located as well as the best for dining and entertainment. The Santa Chiara is a well located hotel in your price range.

topping? unclear

Hi Hartmann,
Your post was down around 100+, so I brought it back to the top for you. Whenever there is a reply to a post it goes to the top. |
Another recommendation for the Santa Chiara. The location is perfect, the staff is great, our room was spotless and decent size, above average included breakfast. What more could you ask for?
[email protected] If you're interested, contact them soon as it is a very popular hotel. |
Thank you for the "topping" clarification :-) I called the Santa Chiara and they are booked :-(

Lthorn,
What room did you have at the San Carlo? Did you have any problems with noise from other rooms or maids setting up breakfast? We're scheduled for October. Diane |
Diane ~ I am booked at the San Carlo in September. I have a single room w/terrace in the main hotel. I'm happy to give you details upon my return. If I forget to post to you, please feel free to email me: [email protected] |
Hotel Navona is great. Halfway between Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. On a quiet sidestreet.
It's run by an Australian guy so it's super-easy to call and make a reservation if you don't speak Italian. 'Stayed there in 01. Probably around $110/night for a double room w/ bath. |
Albergo Del Senato has often been recommended on this forum. It is across the street from the Pantheon, and within walking distance of most of Rome's major sites. Last month, we stayed around the corner from the Del Senato and peeked at the lobby and some rooms, which were tiny but quite nice. I think a double should be in your price range there.
Good luck! |
Hi, Hartmann, Don't know when you are going; however, why not stay at a great location at less than 1/3d the price? My wife & I are staying in a monastery in the Piazza Navona for 65 euros (includes breakfast). It's called the Istituto Santa Giulianna. Sister Kathryn Anderson is in charge, speaks English, & her email is:
