In search of my roots in Vilnius

I will be doing a two week tour of the Baltic States in October and spending a few days in Vilnius, or "Vilna" as my mother always called it. She and her family came to the US in 1919. My mom, who is gone now, was 5 when they came. Her first cousin, who was on the same ship, was 11 and is still alive and well at 104. I plan to talk with her about what she recalls about where they lived, etc. If anyone has any suggestions for me about what not to miss in Vilnius, I would very much appreciate it.

We are heading there in a couple of weeks for our third visit to my husband's father's family. Vilnius is very interesting - the old town is lovely. THe television tower is a fantastic memorial/ museum about the independence movement in the not-very-distant past.
There are also some great sights not far from Vilnius that you will hopefully see on your tour, including Trakai castle and the Hill of Crosses.
Mostly though, we have found people in Lithuania so hospitable that we haven't even had to think about where to go or what to do as we have been embraced, fed, entertained and shown around with great enthusiasm. If you don't speak Lithuanian, learn the words for delicious, thank you and that's enough now!
Have a great trip.

My grandmother was from Vilnus. Born in the 1870's. We have visited the old city. I waked a few feet away from the President of Lithuania. Incredible.
