In Paris for 24 hrs - Looking for Hotel Reco

My husband and I will be making a quick stop in Paris during early April. We arrive at CDG at 8 a.m., and plan to depart the next morning for London via the Eurostar. A few places we'd like to see are the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Lourve. I realize it's a quick trip - the Eiffel Tower and a Seine River Cruise are our top priorities.

We are looking for hotel recommendation that is close to the these tourist locations + is also convenient for us to get from CDG to the hotel, and from the hotel to the Eurostar, since our time is limited.

Appreciate any recommendations on hotels and transportation, as well as tour companies.

Thanks!

There is a massive choice of three-star hotels in Paris, so choosing your hotel is really first a matter of determining which district or quarter of Paris you want to stay in, then selecting the place that best meets your requirements; you can choose from hundreds of independent establishments, or from the three-star hotels run by the major chains, such as Novotel and Mercure or Kyriad Prestige brands.

Stay where you want and take a cab to the Gare du Nord for your train.

I would stay in the 5th or 6th - granted tourist central - but close to much of what you want to see and do. In the morning for the train just grab a cab - and be sure to allow enough time for the security and check in.

As for your sights I would see the Eiffel Tower but not spend the time to ascent - spend that instead on the boat, in Notre Dame and at the Louvre. For the latter go to the web site in advance and pick out your must sees and plan a route inside to see them - since it's so massive you could be there for days.

A taxi from CDG to the heart of Paris will take approximately 45 minutes and will cost roughly 60 euros. You can also take a train, but I have not done that. I recommend you stay in the 6th. You can take a boat ride from the Pont Neuf and see the Eiffel Tower at one end and Notre Dame at the other all from the boat, and many other landmarks as well. Then I would suggest you walk. Walking is the best part of being in Paris -- along both sides of the Seine, Luxembourg Gardens if you have time, Tuilleries Gardens and the Louvre. Get a good map of central Paris and plan out your route. It's all easy. Have lunch and dinner at outside cafes and people watch -- there are lots to choose from.

For one day, I would definitely stay right near a RER B stop and take the RER to/from CDG. It can be a convenient location, anyway, being right in the center. I prefer right near Luxembourg stop as it's a bit less hectic than around St Michel.

There are several nice hotels in that area, depends on your budget. You give no idea on that, so I am presuming mid-level. I've stayed in the Trianon Rive Gauche and liked it a lot http://www.hoteltrianonrivegauche.com/

It's reasonably priced even though I see now a 4* (didn't used to be). I've also stayed in the Sorbonne and liked it http://www.hotelsorbonne.com/en/

There are quite a few hotels within a block or two of that RER stop. Some others I know that are rated well: http://www.hoteldesgrandshommes.com/en/
They have a sister hotel, Pantheon, a bit higher level.

oh, sorry, I see you are arriving from CDG and leaving from Gare du Nord. Being near the RER B stop would still be perfect for both things.

Thank you so much everyone for your feedback - appreciate it!

Any decent hotel near Gare du Nord

This is a "stash your bag and go thing" and GdN's transport links into town are great

So easy to just have to walk across to the station on the day you leave, and if you leave later in the day you can leave your bags at the hotel, go into town and return later.

As the area aroun GdN is now starting to gentrify, there's a number of recent boutique hotels that are quite nice

Our favorite, a 10 minute walk away, just off the Canal St Martin is Robinette d'Or, in an old faucet factory. 3 star prices but 5 star service and a really great restaurant on the premises too and that's really special, even in Paris.

Robinet, not robinette. hmmm :)

We stayed in a hotel across from the Gare du Nord which I think now is named Terminus du nord or such. Quite nice, lovely breakfast room.
There are a line of cafes facing the Gare where we often go to eat mussels on their terrace.

I slept several times at terminus Nord.
They have a nice breakfast btw
I stopped going after 2 colleagues found somebody in their room during the night. One lost his wallet and laptop.
It was 1 year ago so possible the thief has been caught. Just beware.

Art hotel Lafayette is very nice and within walking distance.

If somewhat familiar with Paris and having only 1 carry-on each we would take the RER....if not, a cab from CDG.

As far as hotel, what's your budget? With such a short time we'd definitely stay near The Seine, probably near Notre Dame. Very easy to get around to your selected sights from there. Walk, metro, cab, boats, all convenient. Tell us your budget and you'll get many suggestions.

The Eiffel & Louvre most times have long lines. If you want to go in The Louve or to the top of The Eiffel I'd definitely book tickets ahead to save time.

River cruise....Vedettes leaves from the Pont Neuff. If going at night get the boat on the 1/2 hour so you get to The Eiffel on the hour when it lights up. Check out their website.
A dinner cruise is enchanting for a 1st time in Paris. Yes, it's expensive, the food is good but not exceptional, but a bottle of wine, seeing the city lit up from the river...memorable. Several leave from different locations. I know many will disagree but for just 1 night in Paris this might be a good choice.

A cab to the Eurostar in the morning is easy. We thought the area around Gar du Nord wasn't the nicest area to stay in, to put it nicely. With just 1 night in Paris I'd want to be near The Seine.
