In-between dirt cheap and Gucci...

Has anyone found an area in Rome where you can get fairly good clothes that are fairly reasonably priced.Kind-of in-between dirt cheap, and Gucci very dear stuff? And is there a place like Orchard Street in N.Y.C.(where New Yorkers go, instead of paying Bloomindale's prices)....

The dollar is so weak right now that almost anything you find along these lines that woud normally be considered a bargain, can probably be purchased in the US for less

We had fun shopping in Coin. I bought some underwear, socks (they have an amazing hosiery selection) and scarves. Didn't think it was too outrageous.

I found stores on Via Nazionale reasonably priced. However, like mulifat said the dollar isn't great so my shopping policy when in Europe is to buy only what I truly love and think is unique that I couldn't find back home. I also find that in Rome what is in style (in mid-priced stores) can be found in store after store. Also, as a New Yorker- Orchard St. is not what it used to be- not that it is bad - but it is now full of trendy hip and expensive stores and restaurants. It is not my mother's Orchard St.

Many Romans do their clothes shopping on Via Cola di Rienzo, between Piazza Cola di Rienzo and Piazza dell'Unita.

There are lists of the shops on the street here:

http://www.romecity.it/Viacoladirienzo.htm

"Abbigliamento" is clothing, "femminile" is women's, "maschile" is men's, "Calzature" are shoes, and "Accessori e borse" are accessories and purses.

If you are interested in vintage clothing, the New York Times recently ran an article about the shops on Via del Governo Vecchio.

But as other posters have said, the exchange rate to the Euro is not in your favor.
