In Barcelona...Montjuic

We're in Barcelona! The days are flying by so quickly!

Visiting the Picasso museum tomorrow then considering heading to Monjuic afterwards around 3pm by cab. Have not researched this ...any suggestions on where to go first upon arrival there...The castle? Any other favorites? Also thinking of having dinner around the area if you have input on a nice restaurant preferably with views?

Thank you!

<b>The Joan Miro Museum</b>..fun, colorful and interesting. Don't recall any restaurants on the Mont. You could ride the cable car from the harbor starting point.

Taxi to the cable car start - vis a vis restaurant Xalet and the Olympic swimming arena up on Montjuic (adress: Avinguda Miramar, 30) - and then the cable car/teleferic up to the castle is a great idea/THE way to do it. Stunning views of both the city and the sea. http://www.telefericdemontjuic.cat/en/

And, as suggested above, be sure to visit the wonderful Fundació Joan Miró museum 200 meters further down the hill from the cable car start. At Miró you also find a taxi stand.

Restaurants at Montjuic:

Restaurant Xalet, vis a vis the cable car start, has got all the views that you can wish for: http://www.gruptravi.com/ca/xalet-de-montjuic/

La Font del Gat, just below the Fundació Joan Miró, is also a fine place in beautiful surroundings: http://www.lafontdelgat.com/

BUT, two of my favourites in Barcelona are very close to eachother at the foot of Montjuic, ten minutes walking from Miró. I would have forgotten about the views at Xalet or the scenery at Font del Gat, and had either the most genuinely Catalan lunch you could find at La Perla (lunch only, 1pm-about 5pm): http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran...Catalonia.html

... or lunch or a late night dinner at old school and rock'n roll Xemei just across the street from La Perla. Had one of the best meals I can remember here a few weeks ago. The Bigoli en salsa Veneciana is out of this world, so simple and yet so different from anything I've tasted before. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Lvcjtoh0tU

Both restaurants are on the fringe of Poble Sec with all its great tapas bars and a very local atmosphere. https://www.airbnb.no/locations/barcelona/el-poble-sec

Have a great Montjuic day!

... regarding the post above, I would have done it this way:

Picasso museum, then taxi to La Perla or Xemei for lunch. Then walk 15 min or taxi up to the cable car start and then up to the castle. The views part of the day will be more than taken care of by the teleferic ride and on the Castle itself. Then play it by the ear (guess I would have ended up in some of the tapas bars or cafes down in Poble Sec...)

I think today might be one of my favorite days. Ever.

Thanks so much for the suggestions! Tower love the pics. Unfortunately we ran out of time for the Miro museum but had plenty of time eating our way into the day... I am still stuffed!

Just when we thought we've combatted jetlag, our bodies did a 360 and we've been up since yesterday and didn't pass out till 7am this morning...the morning of our Montjuic day. With only a couple of hours of sleep, we were okay. Must be the excitement of it all.

We stopped at Boheme, a little pastry shop by the Picasso museum and had some pastries and OJ. Surprisingly, not even coffee. Told you we were okay! :^)

The Picasso pieces were a hit with my bf but I especially enjoyed the Dali temp exhibit. Bought tickets online last night and avoided a very long line. Not even 1 person in front of us.

And then we followed your suggestions kimhe!!

But first we stopped at Orange for a quick phone fix where we met a guy desperately needing a sim card because his friend got pickpocketted and lost 1k. They took his wallet from the inside of his supposedly very deep pocket. These guys are beyond skilled.

Ordered taxi from MyTaxi app which has been working well for us, took 3 minutes, then headed to Xemei with 5 minutes to spare before closing at 4p. Our cab driver turned into Andretti. We called to make sure and talked to Stefano who was so kind to say he'll wait for us. When we got there we all shook hands and he reserved the back corner table for us...the best table! I love this place.

Of course I ordered the bigoli pasta...the whole point of dashing there.

Okay, how would you even describe that taste?!

Omg! Seriously it was out of control!! You were right...nothing I've ever tasted. It was so good my bf kept trading scoops of his steak tartar for bites of it lol. We ordered campari to start then a glass of wine. He got some 12 year whiskey and they left all the bottles on the table for us! Also had grilled octopus with eggplant and the catch of the day which was turbot. They were all delicious but nothing beat the pasta. I'm going to crave that taste and will not know where else to get it without requiring a flight.

Took a cab to the teleferic. Bf was stoked. Me not so much. Did I tell you I'm terrified of heights?

Super long line but went quickly. The ride was also only about 5 minutes and was not as scary as I thought. Amazing views!

More amazing views on top of the castle. We loved it up there! The lady at the teleferic ticket booth said they would stop transporting back at 7p so we got round trip tickets. The guy at the castle ticket booth said 8p. Meandered around, got a little carried away, and got back at 720p. Of course it was shut down.

You could take a bus, walk down or I suppose call a cab to get back down the hill. We decided to walk. The views on our way down were fantastic especially at sunset; we were glad we missed the ride. I could see myself hiking up and down that path if I lived in Barcelona. And if you pay attention, you'll see a great public pool they only open during the summer that overlooks the city. We knew this because Julio told us. Was that the pool they used in the '92 Olympics? During our walk down, we ran into Xalet and decided to eat and drink again!! As expected, the views were beautiful, food was great, but the service by Julio was remarkably spectacular.

Tomorrow we fly to San Sebastian. I'm glad I brought some loose fitting clothes because I can feel my stomach expanding! Some other notable places we enjoyed here was Bar Mut {fillet topped with foie gras...jesus} and Dos Cielos where my bf surprised me with a table in the chef's kitchen. If you can, try to enjoy the exquisite wine pairing which included brandy, sake and 8 or so others. I did have a little bit of a headache the next morning but it was worth it lol.

Thanks again for responding last minute to my Montjuic requests. kimhe check out my profile pic. Had to get a shot of this bowl of yumminess for you!

Happy Easter

Glad you made it to Xemei, and that sounded very much like a meal from heaven I remember from a few weeks back ;-) We also had the grilled octopus with eggplant, and the excellent idea about campari, wine and 12 year old whiskey bottles on the table I will keep in mind for the next visit!

Sounds also as you had a profound "Montjuic experience"! And yes, that pool was the one they used in the '92 Olympics. Good idea to leave out Miró after a day of Picasso, Xemei, teleferic, Castle and Xalet. It would have been overload and leaves an obvious reason for doing a Xemei-Montjuic repeat. You should also know that Xemei is 300 meters from fabulous Mercat de les Flors and Teatre Lliure. http://www.teatrelliure.com/en
http://mercatflors.cat/en/

We had a table at Xemei after seeing cutting edge flamenco goddess Rocío Molina in brutal and beautiful Bosque Ardora at Mercat de les Flors. http://danceumbrella.co.uk/event.php...a#.VSD9M4f9mM8

Enjoy San Sebastián!

And fabulous 15 min intro to the San Sebastián food scene, it ends with a pintxos crawl with some of the beast chefs in town: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwmBAvqa_0U
