In Athens Today
This morning we took the X95 bus to the airport to pick up s rental car to drive to Napflion. We got a GPS and programmed it for Napfion and started on our way.
The GPS took us into the center of Athens (back where we started) and it was awful. Motorcycles zooming aroung us and huge trucks coming within inches. We were terrified and took the car back to the airport in one piece. Oh Well. Then we hiked to the top of the Acropolis to see the Parthenon which was very cool! 5:00pm is a good time for this since there were not many people there. We went to Tzitzikas and Mermmingas for dinner again and it was amazing. We shared Katiki cheese toasts and pork with orange sauce. With a bottle of red wine it was 24.50 Euro. Then we rode the metro back to our apartment and stopped for a concert along the way. It was a gay pride concert and there were guys dressed in wedding dresses and singing and dancing. Very Entertaining! So, all in all a good day. Laurie |

Hi,
I am sorry to hear about your driving experience. I like GPS system, but I always need to look at a map so I have a general idea what I am doing. I understand that the GPS has a map, but too small for me to digest. Try again as Naflion is worth it. I have driven in Athens on a few occassions and I understand the traffic situation. Have fun! We are leaving Athens tomorrow to go to Mykonos. We will need to save Napflion for another trip. But, thanks for the advice.

Do you have an address for Tzitzikas and Mermmingas? How about some information about your apartment?

So you're not able to go to Nafplio at all? That is too bad - one of our favorite places in Greece.
Sometimes those GPS devices can screw you up IMO. If you were intending to go to Nafplio from the airport, you certainly didn't need to back to central Athens. Have a great time in Mykonos and look forward to more reports. |
O Tzitzikas O Mermigas is at 14 Mitropoleos, near Syntagma Sq. It's on a busy shopping street so new view, but it's good. It was probably my favorite meal in Athens (but I didn't go anywhere super pricey or posh).

Oops - I meant "no view" not "new view."

Sorry, I just saw this post.
We enjoyed the apartment we rented in Athens. The location worked out very well. The apartment has a huge terrace with a beautiful view of the Acropolis. It was especially beautiful at night. The apartment was a little cluttered but was comfortable for 2 people. We appreciated the washing machine. Here is a link to this apartment: http://www.vrbo.com/147936 |
