Wow. Just lost interest in Whathello's future posts....

We pack the night before. We figure as long as we have any tickets needed, passports and our credit card we can probably buy anything we absolutely need at our destination.

i think he's pulling your leg, pavot.

for starters, I think he's quite a lot younger than 80...

I just put rubber bands around my little flashlight in such a way that the flashlight doesn't turn itself on and run down the battery.

I'll print out some acrostic puzzles so that if I am tired of reading, watching 1930's movies or playing free cell on my tablet, I'll have something to do. P.S. Lufthansa has lousy entertainment, which is why I bring my tablet.

I also bring endless medications. I think there was probably a time when I didn't have to use all these pills, but it was so long ago that I don't remember it.

As I read these posts, I saw a lot that I also do--print out all reservations and tickets and put them in a folder, bring clothes pins, etc.

Being pretty much non-electronic is rather a problem. I need to check in for my Air Berlin flight, and I guess I'll have to do that in person when my Lufthansa flight lands.

Peg, you can get acrostics for tablets.

I take only hand language...so packing clothing depends on the last minute weather forecast.
In addition to some already mentioned items, I take a small alarm clock...( or one can set alarm on the phone ) ...A couple of times ( Paris, Copenhagen) the early weak up call never
happened.

danon May 28th, 2016 11:43 AM

In the early 2000 Air France lost our luggage arriving to Paris from Croatia ( the last time we ever checked in ) ..we were each given
a kit with basic toiletries . It included a condom !

<i> lol, bvl, that's not what I call last minute packing. Last minute is more what Peg describes, i.e, sorting and packing the day before... </i>

Maybe I made it sound more organized than it really is. I really do the sorting and packing the night before.

Pavot... No sense of humour, mate ?

StCirq May 29th, 2016 03:06 AM

pavot, I think you overlook whathello's sense of humor, and perhaps the fact he's writing in his third language.

I pack the night before. Take a small carry-on with clothes dependent on last-minute weather forecasts. I can't imagine loading myself down with the minutiae people have described here - I can find that stuff wherever I'm going and I don't want to lug it with me. My keychain has a flashlight. I always have my cell phone, camera, laptop, and chargers for all of them in my purse, so that's not an issue. I have one pair of shoes, which I wear - sometimes I'll throw in a pair of totally lightweight ballet flats if I know I'm going to go someplace that won't welcome my hiking shoes. I always have one nice outfit, but it doesn't weigh anything. I have no medications and minimal toiletries. No use for an immersion heater or anything like that. Duct (duck - LOL!) tape? Why? I do have a tiny notebook and pen in my purse. And a folder for all my printouts of reservations for trains, hotels, etc.

It's a bit harder in winter, but even then I don't get all OC about packing.

jubilada May 29th, 2016 05:05 AM

I don't bring immersion heaters or anything like that and don't even print out reservations etc as we each keep a copy on our phone. I do bring maps though, my kindle as well as my tiny inflatable pillow ( it packs into the size of a mans fist.) I always wear one pair of shoes and bring another.

OReilly May 30th, 2016 06:06 AM

WOW! I am in awe of your guys who are so organized.

The night before I ensure I have boarding pass, passport and credit card. If that is all I have, then I am sorted.

Next, I ensure I have all electronics (and charged): Notebook, iPad, iPhone, Camera and all cables.

I make a list the night before re clothes and shoes, pack on the day, consider bringing anther suitcase, decide against it, then have to remove half of everything. I have a shoe problem, overly fond of them, and think I must bring them all on holidays with me at least once a year.

I end up in a sweat, 15 minutes before the limo will pick me up - complete panic.

I hate flying. so its part of a pattern :(

If you plan on doing laundry in the sink, pack an elastic clothesline.

I have a small envelope in which I have copies of our living wills, medical information, prescription info, etc. that I always take wherever we travel.

I also have a small zip bag that I keep by my bedside. It has a travel alarm (too hard to learn to set hotel alarms), pen, small notepaper pad, stylus, tissues, Tums, Tylenol and a small LED flashlight. At night I have everything I need beside me and I store my eyeglasses in it so I always know where they are, which can be very important in a strange hotel room.
