I'm looking for an ideal village
I'm looking for an ideal village in Italy to stay in (for between 3 and 6 weeks) and soak up the ambience. We had a few days in Castelmola in Sicily in 2008 and loved it. We promised ourselves we would return to there (or another village) for a longer time. It would be our intention to try to rent an apartment or similar and as much as possible live like a local. We are not fussed about which part of Italy / Sicily.

It's a purely personal view but I would wonder at the attraction of a small village for a stay of one month's duration.
A small town would attract me more with a number of restaurants to choose from on the evenings when the delights of Italian home cooking fade a little.
A town that would appeal to me would be Volterra in Tuscany; it manages to combine its attraction for tourists with a real local community - not too big, not too small.
In the area, you have limitless day trips - you can even walk to San Gimignano.

If you are considering Tuscany, we loved Panzano. It is a small town, larger than Castelmola but small enough that you could enjoy local living and culture. It has a Sunday market and several good restaurants. It is easy to get to and to leave - you will need a car - and there are lots of attractions nearby.
Nearby, and more in the spirit of Castelmola, is Montefioralle, a village at the top of a hill. It is quite small but affords easy access to Greve and some nearby vineyards. There is also a good restaurant in the village.

A truly delectable dilemma.
Some towns here as well.
Sicily: Modica (larger than Noto but manageable and lively and wonderful views over the town), Ortigia
Umbria: Spello
Somewhere on the Ligurian coast: Santa Margherita Ligure, Camogli...
