Sally 30: If the weather is good in October, don't skip the Aeolian Islands, which are paradise on earth. I've posted many articles on Lipari and the other islands, and can answer specific questions. In some respects, seeing the islands in low season make them even more alluring than when they are overrun with tourists between July and mid-September. The first two weeks in October should be OK.
