il vino in paris

Hi. Was wondering if anyone has eaten here. It is a relatively new restaurant where you pick 3 wines and they prepare your appetizer, entree and dessert to best compliment the wine. 50 Euros. Sounds interesting and was hoping for some feedback. Thanks as always.

Miss Daisy, I feel your pain. We are going in May and I thought I had my list finalized til I read the reports on Il Vino. The price seems fair considering all three pours are said to be generous. It is in the 7th fyi.
So, nobody has eaten here? I find that hard to believe!

This sounds awesome! We are going to be in Paris in a couple of weeks and I think we may have to add this to our list of to-do's! Thanks for the tip! Sorry I can't offer any advice - yet!

I'm in the same situation as others who have posted here. We go April 9 to 16 and I'm starting the "build-up" and then "narrow-down" list. Sounds like this has a definite place on the build up list.

I'd love to hear from the rest of you who have already built your lists which places made the cut and why. Let's keep this going.

Julie, this is our 4th trip to Paris. We love art, history, major cities (originally from NYC), walking the cities and eating well. Every trip I start my food research about 10 months before the trip and agonize over my choices and cuts.
This year our dinners are:
Au Gourmand, Fables de la Fontaine, Le Comptoir, Le Pamphlet, double reservations for Wed w/ Il Vino and Le Troquet, Spring and Afaria. Deleted Ami Jean (tables too close), Clos des Gourmets (silly reason-I had double resevations at Clos and Afaria but Afaria was sooo nice when I called I went w/ Afaria), Chez Michel b/c of rumours that Americans are kept together in a subpar room and treated rudely (this has been on my list for all trips but never made it), Chez Eux b/c we have eaten here all 3 prior trips and w/ La Ardoise, Epi Dupi and Carte Blanche. No real reason for these deletions rather than a gut feel.
Our favorites last trip were Le Troquet and Le Pamphlet which is why we are repeating this time but Il Vino may win out over Le Troquet...I will be sure to report back.

Plambers, I think we'll be at Spring the same evening. Afaria is on my list as well but haven't reserved yet. How did you get a dinner reservation at Le Comptoir?

Shellio, I have my dining list at home and will confirm night at Spring- I think it is Thurs. 5/8. It would be great to meet another fodorite. I booked Le Comptoir about 9 months ago. We were unable to book it last year w/ about 9 months notice so made sure we got it this year!

BTW, I reserved Il Vino on line. They have 2 seating-7:30 and 9:30. They have been very friendly in their responses.

I spent yesterday researching my Pudlo Paris while waiting to be called for jury impanelment (didn't happen, so I got a lot of research in)
Plamers, we've done several of the places on your list and on your "scratched" list and I've got several more on my to do list. For what it's worth, here's my info. Fables is fantastic. It's on my return list. You'll be there in May (we'll be in April) so you may be able to sit outside. It's not the most commodious area, but somehow outside is almost always more fun in Paris. I'd rate some of the dishes we had there on a par with those we've had at Atelier Robuchon--another one on our perennial return list. Le Comptoir--we're staying close to there this time and expect to easily get a seat at lunch for a return visit. Terrific, but seating close as Ami Jean. Le Troquet, a terrific choice, again with the possibility in May of outdoor seating though on a pretty precarious sidewalk.
L'Ami Jean--I sympathize with your decision to cut it based on seating though I've had some of the best food of my Paris eating career there. I agree with your decisions to deselect Clos des gourmets, Chez Michel and Epi Dupin in favor of your other selections. Places you mention that we've not been but are high on my list include Le Pamphlet, Afiria, Chez Eux, and, now, Il Vino. Thanks for sharing and comparing. I promise to report back and hope others will as well.

Not to confuse your choices, since they all sound great, but for others who are still planning, I'll mention a few on my current list--some based on proximity to the place we're staying in the Odeon area. Le Gastroquet, the sweetest little apricot colored place with a real welcome and wonderful traditional food in the 15th. Maison Prunier--at least for a drink. I've become fascinated with this place--or better, the decor of this place, ever since seeing a picture of the floor in a picture book I bought at France in Epcot. Bastide Odeon, near our hotel, competent and given one plate by Pudlo. Les Olivades--another one plate place and on my list for about 10 years, so it's about time. Ribouldingue--I'm a sucker for organ meats and this is apparently all organ meats. Could be my birthday pick since my husband might not go voluntarily. So many places. So few meals. I've always wondered if it would be possible to fit in 4 in a day. Enjoy. And report back.

JulieV, we have eaten at Chez Eux all 3 prior times and have loved it. Great friendly but professional service, fois gras w/ figs to die for, great escargots and cassoulet, and wine. Now that Fables is open on Sunday, it replace our staple La Ardoise.
Last trip our 2 favorites by far were Le Pamphlet and Le Troquet. I am so hesitant to try Il Vino rather than Le Pamphlet but our tour w/ Michael Osman is Tues and since we are staying in th 7th I took the 9:30 Il Vino reservations since it is a walk, rather than a train ride away.
We have dinner at Comptoir and are meeting friends so that makes the tight seating more bearable. We tried to jet them to join us a L Ami Jean, which I have wanted to try all three prior trips also.

I booked Il Vino through the "under construction" website...asked for and received an 8 PM reservation. Hope I booked the right restaurant (if they only offer 2 seatings at 7:30 & 9:30.) Is the restaurant on Blvd. de la Tour Maubourg?

Thanks, we asked for an 8 pm reservation on May 8....maybe she thought that it was close enough to 7:30 and just booked it. I am relieved to see that it is the same restaurant.
