Il Falconiere
Planning a 4 night stay in spring. Is Il Falconiere a good base to see Tuscany via auto - also would appreciate a lodging and dining review please. Thank you.

It is a very nice place but hardly convenient for the majority of Tuscany.
You can tour eastern Tuscany from there and certainly much of Umbria, but it is a long way from my favorite parts of Tuscany. Fabulous food--good luck !

Bob:
Where would you recommend that would be better suited to touring with the same kind of ambiance. Thanks.

We stayed at Il Falconiere in June and loved it. We used it as a base to see the following towns:

Orvieto, Cortona, Spello, Montepulciano and Montalcino and found it very convenient.

We then moved to San Gimignano to see San G, Chianti and Siena.

We ate at Il Falconiere one night (very special meal) and ate in Cortona the other nights (Trattoria Toscana - very good).

Highly recommend staying there.

Of course, staying in 2 locations is better---and the above locations are ideal. However, with only one choice, here are 3 that are excellent---in rank order for your criteria:
Locanda della Amorosa--near Sinalunga
Relais della Rovere---in Colle
Castello di Spaltenna--near Gaiole
