II day ireland trip report-Day 3+

OK, I'll try adding the rest of the days to this thread.

Day 3 plan: Drive out to Mizzen Head, explore the Beara peninsula and return to Kinsale.

We got a late start because the female half of our group (we call them TWMBO's or Those Who Must Be Obeyed) wanted to go back to Kinsale and make a few purchases at the Kinsale crystal shop. No problem, but we had to scratch the Bera.

We finally got on those narrow roads we heard so much about. I didn't find it so bad, but the roads mostly have rock fences on the left side which makes it a very scary ride for passengers on the left side of the car. We finally saw our first painted sheep and goats but we never figured out which ones were the sheep and which were the goats. Some goats have horns and long hair and so do some sheep. The locals were no help since none of them seem to know either.

Day 3 continued:

We finally got to see some of that famous coastal scenery too. Seems everyone wanted to jump out the car every few miles and get a picture. We call this sight seeing. This process is far more time consuming than the traffic, weather, or narrow roads. By the way the weather was the best we had so far, until we got to Mizzen Head lighthouse.

We pulled into the parking lot along with heavy fog and cold temperatures. Ten minutes ago it was beautiful. Stop laughing. It was so bad that I considered not paying the E5 each to go down to the lighthouse. I didn't even take my camera out of the car. But TWMBO insisted and man were they right. As we desended the slope down to a foot bridge the weather improved; still cool but at least we could see. The view from that bridge was the most incredible of all sights I saw during the trip. I felt like I was looking into a valley in Jurassic park. It looked prehistoric. I can't describe it any other way. Unfortunately, the seals who hang around that area were out dining. The light or light house was not that interesting. Tere are a few touristy displays but nothing worth E5.00. But the scenery was priceless.

Day 3 continued:

We skipped the Beara and ended up in Bantry for dinner. Nothing to wrie home about there. The trip back to our B&B was uneventful until I almost burned down the farm house. My half of TWMBO purchased an adapter so we could plug our electrical stuff into Irish recepticles. Thier voltage is 220 and Americans use 110. The adapter was just that, an adapter. It didn't step down the voltage to 110. Stop laughing. So when I plugged in my battery charger it started smoking and this was a non-smoking B&B. And it blew a circuit breaker. But outide, lightning was playing havoc with the lights in the area so she thought that that was what caused the breaker to trip. I didn't disagree. Stay tuned for Day 4.

Hope you don't mind a stranger writing to you. We are getting ready to go to Ireland in 3 weeks for a 13 day trip.
You reports are great. We used the European Vacation movie as a guide to Europe but I hope to adopt your reports as what to do and not do.
We have a saying (2 couples) also. "Yes Dear. What ever you say dear."
Keep up the good work.
Lewis
