Thanks for the suggestion, link and table of contents! I did borrow a library book on Italian history and culture (condensed) but I haven't exactly gotten around to read more than a couple of pages.. I'll listen to these either on the flight there or at the hotel (since I'm departing tomorrow)!

Somehow I had missed this before! Thanks for topping--I've recently returned from Pompei and Herculaneum and found them both fascinating so I can hardly wait to watch/listen and "put it all together".

thanks, Mrand - I'm going to Sorrento for a week in February with some of our italian class and our teacher. We will be attending language classes in the mornings, and doing excursions in the afternoons. I'm sure that the lectures will help to make it more meaningful.

I have been recommending this course to people for a few years now. It is wonderful. There are terrific courses at the Open Yale website in many subjects, and I have followed quite a few of them now. Highly recommended. Many can be listened to in the car, although the one on Roman architecture requires the video.
