If your site isn't working because of the update, just take it offline

Twice today, I've typed an answer to a question only to have it freeze and then vanish.

I imagine that the changeover to the new format is at fault, but if the site isn't working, it shouldn't be online.

What a pain in the a--!

NewbE Jun 21st, 2017 06:18 AM

It's working well enough for me and a lot of other posters, judging by recent posts on threads on every forum. Write the editors if you're that exercised about a minor inconvenience, but you're really overreacting.

Christina Jun 21st, 2017 07:18 AM

I haven't had any problems with posting. Sometimes it does seem to hang up a bit and a white screen appears making it look like nothing happened, but it turns out the post actually has "taken."

So maybe what you are calling freezing and vanishing is what I saw, but perhaps your post actually did go through, did you check?

AFAIK there is no "update", the website obviously looks exactly like it always did. If there's an update, I think you'll notice it and it will look entirely different.

and that post had none of those issues, actually

Andrew Jun 21st, 2017 07:20 AM

Freezes during posting have been common for me for the last week. Most of the time, the posts go through. Occasionally not and I lose them. I copy-and-paste anything long that I don't want to type again before hitting the Submit button.

Yes, the site has been slow the last week. Just hit reload until it comes back.

Dukey1 Jun 21st, 2017 07:47 AM

Sorry, but this "minor inconvenience" of hitting the reload" is BS.

PalenQ Jun 21st, 2017 08:45 AM

Yes it takes time but once the Preview thing is highlighted it will eventually go thru.

NewbE Jun 21st, 2017 08:54 AM

Dukey, what's your point? That waiting for 5 seconds is just too much for you? I really do hope this is the biggest issue you face today.

Dayle Jun 21st, 2017 09:02 AM

Ive been having multiple types of problems. Significant slowness, pages not loading at all, sorting by state or country not working. Server not responding

ribeirasacra Jun 21st, 2017 09:56 AM

Stop complaining, it is not as if you have to pay for this service!

NewbE Jun 21st, 2017 09:59 AM

Well, you do get what you pay for!

bvlenci Jun 25th, 2017 08:24 AM

I don't see why I'm overreacting. I just said that a nonfunctional website shouldn't be online, and I think any web site manager would agree with me. I would hardly call that a rant.

I did check that the vanished posts never got published before making this post. One of them vanished after I hit "preview". I had no forewarning of the problem, so it didn't occur to me to make a copy of my post before submitting. The first one was a rather lengthy answer to a question and I was quite annoyed that it got lost. The second time, I just made a brief response to a question, partly to see if the problem would recur, and it did.

There are lots of things on the internet that I don't pay for, including my browser. That doesn't mean I don't expect them to work properly. The Fodors forums are not a gift, you know. They make a profit on them with ads and email offers.

bvlenci Jun 25th, 2017 08:26 AM

As a matter of fact, those of us who try our best to answer people's questions on these forums are the ones who are making a gift to Fodors.

iris1745 Jun 25th, 2017 08:37 AM

<is BS.> Oh Please!! lol

Macross Jun 25th, 2017 08:53 AM

It has been hanging up for over a week now. I copy if an info post with links so if it doesn't go through can try again. Very slow and I can complain if I want.
