If you were in Rome in July, what was the temperature?
We might be in England, or in Rome in early July (first or second week) with my brother and his family. I'm a little worried about the heat in Rome if that's thier choice. I realize weather can be variable, just wondering if you were there, what was it like?

Hot usually and when I was there last.. AC a must in your room sort of a dry heat though Avoid direct sun during the heat of the day I did fine with it... last there in May was hot then too and hotels have AC refused to turn it on at night because energy costs were so high this was the Sheraton Roma...it truly sucked I felt like I was in a Richard Simmons sweating to the oldies video... eurocheapo.com/rome good food trasport tips |

There's a great website www.wunderground.com. Under "travel & activities" and then under "trip planner" you can put in place and dates and it will show you the weather for past years, temperature, humidity, wind, precipitation, etc. Gives you a good idea of what to expect and with how much variation from year to year.

We were there just last month - Sept 9-16, and it was mid 90s! Drink lots of water (carry water bottles and refill them often). Take a break in the heat of the afternoon, shower and even nap if you can. Visit Piazza Navonna and Spanish Steps at night -- just as beautiful, if not more so!

Weather is subject to change. We were there beginning of June and it was pleasant but it rained on us. 80s I think.
Stayed in Trastevere twice at Angeli's House Terrace A (not sure I can give the link, so google is your friend). 2 Bedrooms, sleeps 5 or 6. AC and reasonable price. Great location close to lots of trattorias where you can get a meal for 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) for like 35E including drinks. |
Sometimes in Rome the heat is dry with an ocean breeze and sometimes it is humid and still.
But you should also be concerned about the heat in England in July. It can be boiling in England these days and rather pleasant in Italy at the same time. |

I fly to Rome for work with the airlines every month. Rome trips definitely go more junior among flight attendants in July and August as the heat and humidity are usually pretty bad-sometimes you cannot even drink red wine! I think that that is why the shoulder months are getting so crowded these days as the city is magical when you can sit out and enjoy the moments.Just make sure that you have a hotel with A/C or you will be miserable!
I do agree with Zeppole about the temps in England too-they have had some strange summer weather there the past couple years. |
Very hot and humid - mid to high 90s anytime I have been there in eithr July or Aug. And not every place has AC - so be prepared.

Links to the stories that I put up span several years of record-breaking July temps in Great Britain. In mid-July 2006 temps were in the high 90s all over the UK, and the press reported that "British temperatures this week have exceeded such holiday destinations as Malta, Athens, Bermuda and Rome."
Other stories were to July heatwaves in the UK in 2010 and 2011. Which is not to say Rome is always cooler or doesn't get similar heatwaves, but I just don't think you can predict which destination will be hotter. But you can avoid is humidity if you head for the mountains. (What I would want to avoid in July of 2012 is the Olympics.) |
I had been hoping that maybe the really hot weather didn't start in Rome until the end of July into August. Oh well, doesn't sound fun!
The apartment I'm looking at in London does have AC, and we might head north after London, so England might be a safer bet. Definitely avoiding the Olympics! |
