I am trying to decide if I want to go to London this July or Glasgow in October. If I just stay in the city, should I feel relatively safe making travel plans?

Are you referring to the F&M problem? If so, regardless of how bad it gets, I can't imagine there would ever be any problem visiting the major cities in the UK and Ireland. There is a request to travellers to avoid the countryside but restrictions on vistors to cities will never happen.

I'll be in London next week and if I hear of any problem, I'll let you know.

Hi Greg!
Thought, maybe, you were referring to the F&M thing, but just wasn't sure...

Either way, I was curious!

Sorry I can't further help you with your inquiry! Anxious to see your responses...

You will not be restricted if you don't leave the city and the meat is safe to eat.

Please God, this is over by july, never mind October

Greg, Mary:

Check the following web-site for updates.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/

If you intend to travel to cities only, it is unlikley that your trip will be affected in any way. Hopefully, in the next 14 days they will manage to contain it.

Regards

P.S. Mary ... are you the same Mary who wants to know "best movies about Paris"?

For heavens sake, you're not going to drop down dead!! Be realistic.

Nearly 60 million people live here and we're fine.

The F&M problem should not affect your trip - all usual city attractions are open at present and hopefully this should clear up by the time you visit. At present, many public footpaths ARE closed, also Dartmoor/Exmoor, some wildlife parks, farms (obviously), Richmond and parts of Windsor Great Park (to protect the deer) and most National Trust properties. But that still leaves most other attractions and you can always drive through the country/coast if you want to!

Marion - I'm sure Greg knows his health won't be in danger, but his travel plans might be. If many countryside attractions are closed and that's what he wanted to see in addition to the cities - it might not be the best time to go. Look at the people who have had plans for months to be in Dublin for the Paddy's Day festivites and are now disappointed because they have been cancelled. I don't think Greg's question was unreasonable.

F&M wont affect cities.
Those travelling to London soon should expect a very high level of security, some Irish have just blown up the BBC (badly injuring a passerby) & have more planned, it is thought.Could be over by the time you arrive Greg.
NB these events don't affect Scotland.

Greg,
You'll be fine! And don't let this stop you from taking a day trip to somewhere like Bath or Cambridge if you have the time.
