Interesting. It's all about the history...yet no Rome? |
Paris
Venice Amsterdam because each is a unique, truly one-of-a-kind prize of a city |
Wow. Looks like I'm definitely going to have to check out Venice! I agree about Paris, I think everyone should see it once- Especially at night because it just glows, and the light shimmering of the Seine... you just have to see it.

Vienna, London, Paris, Brugge, Salzburg.
|
Venice, Venice, Venice, Venice, Venice!
Okay, to answer properly: Venice, Paris, Siena, Barcelona, Rome Monica ((F)) |
These are my five favorites, in no particular order:
Prague - absolutely gorgeous, beautiful city with stunning architecture everywhere, one of the best walking cities. Krakow - gem of a city, old town is great, wonderful main square (Rynek Glowny), small, comfortable city, not overwhelming in size, delicious food, very cheap. Rome - Great history, art, food. Everywhere you turn, there is something interesting. Florence - very picturesque and photogenic, art, easy to get around. Salzburg - great castle at the top of the hill (can't remember the name of it), interesting side streets to wander around. |
1) Istanbul - the most amazing, magical city I have ever visited in Europe. I cannot imagine anyone who has ever visited Istanbul not ranking it in the top 5.
2) St. Petersburg, - more beautiful and stunning than Paris. 3) Berlin - vibrant, alive, exciting 4) Paris 5) Prague, followed closely by Vienna, then Rome, Venice, Barcelona, Krakow, and London. Not that impressed with Florence, Madrid, Lisbon, Warsaw, Athens, Amsterdam, Moscow. |
Paris
Florence Vienna Venice London (which I've yet to visit) (not 5, but I think a LOT of American's are also called "back home" to Ireland...) |
Paris, Prague, Salzburg, Vienna, Cesky Krumlov.

Who knows why a thread like this gets resurrected months after it starts - - oh well, I didn't contribute anything the first time around...
I do wonder... if the Russians hadn't made it so difficult to visit their country for most of the twentieth century, I suspect that more people would list St. Petersburg or Moscow (I haven't been to Russia at all). To add to London, Paris, Rome and Venice. Best wishes, Rex |
Venice, Rome, London, Paris, Vienna.
Well, the question (yes, OLD!) did say CITIES. |
The top two must view:
London and Paris Then, I like unique settings: Venice - Lucern - Athens (in that order) |
In the category of cities with the most historical impact on contemporary life, three cities come forward: Istanbul, Rome and Paris.
This said, I have 2 wild cards, one of which could easily go to Venice and the last one to London or Leningrad... |
London, Florence, Venice, Prague, and Rome. These are cities I've been to and loved. Then there are other places I look forward to visiting; the ones I would most like to get to next (in no particular order) are: Edinburgh, Barcelona and Athens.
