Sorry. I still don't get it. They have a full month. Within that month is three days "leeway". We don't know what the full itinerary is. Taking three days out of a month to spend in either Palermo or Naples is a totally different thing than taking three days out of 7. That's why I suggested it is fine for them, but probably not so fine for you.

Anyway, it now sounds like a good plan to me.

You will love Palermo- it is a wonderful city- clean and the nicest people. We found a tiny little restaurant with excellent wine, food, and atmosphere. Very "old" world.. have fun!

DD has been to both (I haven't been to either) and when I asked her this question she responded with "Naples" in a heartbeat. More to do, more to see, people are nicer, right next to Sorrento (oh God), and she said unless you speak Italian you shouldn't go to Palermo.

Do not go to Naples. When I was there everyone warned me not to go. I've heard so many stories of people getting there stuff stolen or worse. I haven't seen this at first hand, but the south of italy about 2 hours away is so much beautiful. Sorrento, Capri, Almalfi, Positano etc. Try there.

Good Luck

If I avoided every place people told me I'd have all my stuff stolen, I'd have had to avoid most of Europe.

We had a great time in Naples and never felt any less safe than anywhere else in Europe.

Naples is a great city, but in answer to the original question. Which would I go to? If I had to pick one and that meant no trips to Sorrento, Capri, Erice, Cefalu et al. I would certainly pick Palermo. I think robert decided on the best thing - 2 days in each.
Robert - I wish I could give you names of all the great restaurants, but I just never remember names. We usually try new restaurants anyway. And, were I to give you directions to any of them you would get lost for sure. I'm betting you will return for another trip and do both cities again. Have a great trip!!
