Oh Pal let's stop arguying about that. I shouldn't have posted on Fodors but since everyone here is a grand voyageur I thought I would have some support.
I just want to let you know that we DO NOT want a airline to go to Paris or Marseille since the TGV does it very well (but just one train so far to CDG) I would never go to Paris by air and lose time in transport from the airports. 1h30 by train is great. We see the impact for the economy if companies from the West of France or Europe come here to settle and our local companies can export also.
It is too hard for me to say that in English. I really understand your point of view though.
Have you read the comments on the petition? Most of them are from people working in Dijon and who want to develop their activities all over France. (or the contrary)
Sans rancune! (got to leave now, dinner with friends!)

It just seems that medium-sized cities should continue to push for better rail service. There is absolutely no future in short flights. Air service for such places is just an ego trip from the previous century.

I am with kerouac - and not only for environmenta reasons. Bundling the infrastructure (a few major hub airports with very good rail links along every main travel axis) makes more sense than splitting it (dozens of small airports).

Coco asked for some support. I know nothing about Dijon's needs but she sure the hell does. I will gladly sign your petition, Coco.
"Dijon is less than 2 hours by rail from several major airports."
Tampa FL (same size roughly as Dijon) has an airport. St Petes FL(30 minutes away by car) has one.
Distance to another airport speaks nothing to need.
PQ - Green! Motor City? Let's advise them on their healthcare and automonbile choice and energy source, too.
Coco - Thanks for your years of advice. I will sign your petition!

Hmm
Similar situation for Tours :
http://www.sbpost.ie/post/pages/p/st...165-qqqx=1.asp
A few years ago, a last minute appeal saved Nimes airport from closure.
Destinations come and go. The low cost airlines must substantially fill their aircraft to make money.
So, who are the 150 people who will fly to Dijon on a rainy February evening ?
Ryanair invests heavily in the marketing of destinations, and the tourist boards (and CCI) generally contribute.
As fuel costs rise, and recession bites, expect more of these marginal destinations to fail.

Goddestogo and Robjame thank you very much for your support, I feel less lonely here.
Altamiro this is a great idea but it is not the case and people still have to take their car. When you have a departure in Lyon airport at 6am where can you find a train at 4am in Dijon? (I did that several time and then polluted with my car like many other passengers in the same case)
Mpprh, this airport would concern Bourgogne Franche-Comté with nearby departments like Haute-Marne and Aube that is to say 3 241 345 residents exactly! You talk about tourists who wouldn’t want to come in February but what about people travelling for their work or coming to see their family at last because it takes 7h usually?
Bergerac which is 110km from Bordeaux seems to do pretty well even though the town has less than 29000 people… http://www.pays-de-bergerac.com/engl...cces/index.asp (check the airline companies)

Coco - please re consider your stance on this issue and you may say that a new airport in Burgundy is of little interest to me or others not involved.
narrow local interests, however well intended vs broad global interests - we all have to, unfortunately sacrifice our energy needs in the West as they are now
we cannot as a society afford such indulgences anymore
i wonder if there is local opposition as well?
