If you could visit only one place in Italy in you entire life, what would it be?

If you were given a chance to visit one place in Italy with your significant other for your entire life, which would it be?

Rome..that was easy!! But I don't think I would enjoy it as much if I knew for sure I could never return to Italy.

Me? San Salvatore di Fitalia, a little town in Sicily.

But that's not going to help YOU plan a trip.

Venice

Shalott Jan 23rd, 2006 06:05 PM

Venice, but I too would be very sad about not seeing any of the rest again.

artlover Jan 23rd, 2006 06:07 PM

Venice, but I sure would hate to miss out on the art in Florence and Rome and the wonderful towns and villages in Tuscany.

tuscanlifeedit Jan 23rd, 2006 06:29 PM

Venice, with the same sad qualifiers that the others have added.

walker222 Jan 23rd, 2006 06:32 PM

Do you guys have any hotel recommendations in Venice?

tuscanlifeedit Jan 23rd, 2006 06:48 PM

Oh, we have so many of them! Favorites here are the Pensione Accademia, La Calcina, Locanda Orseolo, and my favorite: Hotel Ala. Just to name the ones that pop to mind.

What's your price range? In the meantime, check out the ones Ive mentioned, or do a search here for Venice hotel.

Venice, hands down. It's one of the most magical and unique cities in the world.

tcreath Jan 24th, 2006 06:01 AM

Definitely Rome, one of my favorite cities!

Chances are, once you've been to Italy, you will return. However, just in case and keeping it to the essentials, once you have seen the canals and visited San Marco, you've the essence of Venice. (Boy,will I hear about this......LOL) In Rome, however, once you've seen Saint Peters and visited the Vatican Museums, you've only just begun the adventures that awaits you in Rome. From glamour shopping at Gucci's, to the Trivi Fountain, to the 4th centruy church three levels beneath the 12th century Basilica of San Clemente and one floor above the pagan Mithraic temple of the 1st century, all within a 20 minute walk. And yet.....you've only just scratched the surface.
Italy is beautiful and there are really no bad decisions. Plan well and enjoy.

There is such a difference between the small-town Italy experience and the big cities...it really should be two choices. And while I generally prefer the smaller-town ambience, I do have to agree with those choosing Venice.

It is a unique place, and magical. A blind man with a camera could put together a decent photo essay there. Seriously.

I would have to say Rome. I cant seem to ever get enough of it. I just love it!!!!

bookchick Jan 24th, 2006 06:28 AM

Rome.

Florence would be a close second.

I'd have to put on a blindfold and throw a dart at the map of Italy!

Globerunner09 Jan 24th, 2006 03:23 PM

Bellagio! Gotta go there and take the boat ride on Lake Como!
