Bruges is conveniently located for a trip that also includes London and Paris. Switzerland and Germany have some absolutely wonderful places to visit, none of which are as conveniently located for your purposes (and so you would lose more time to travel) and all of which would have you wondering how to cram even more into your time. IMO, 2 weeks is perfect for the combination of London, Bruges, and Paris.

The high point of Switzerland for me was not the cities but the mountains. Don't know if that would appeal to you.
You might take a look at renting a car and visiting the small cities of Normandy: Rouen, Honfleur, Bayeux, perhaps even into Brittany for Mont St Michel and Dinan.

Not Switzerland but next door, the lovely French town of Annecy. Direct TGV service from Gare Lyon, marvelous, watery medieval core next to a gorgeous lake with views of the Alps, good Haute Savoie food, French, rather than Swiss prices. If you want Switzerland, Geneva is under an hour by car, but honestly, Annecy for a couple of days is as close to paradise as you need.

Thanks again, this is an excellent start. I will begin researching all that London and Paris offer, then see if we still want to add a 3rd destination to the mix. I'm really liking the idea of Bruges but I'll certainly check out the other suggestions. Cheers.
