I landed back from Vicenza an hour and half ago. Still looking for a good reason not to get the flight back tomorrow and go illegally squat in a Palladio Villa on the basis that non of them seem to be for sale.

Dickie, when you return to Vicenza, try to go during the period March-October. The Provincia di Vicenza run guided coach tours to outlying villas on Sundays. They are cheap (15 euro I think) and very enjoyable if you are a Palladio fan. On the last one run this year, we saw several villas, some Palladian, some not, and had a couple of hours in Bassano del Grappa - as neither of us was driving, grappa sampling was possible. You can book the tours on the provincia's site, probably early next year.

I cannot express how much we enjoyed Vicenza in the rain. We hadn't been to Venice and it was just about what we expected huge pluses, huge downsides.
Vicenza's old town architecture for us is like something out of a dream. We love British Georgian and Palladio started it all rolling.
The wide pedestrianised streets were a huge relief from the alley network of Venice.
We very, very fortunate to "fall" onto the road at the side of the Brenta canal. We took a wrong turn leaving the ferry terminal at Fusina and discovered what must be the grandest roads in the world.
Next year we will spend a week here and in the Dolomites (in the sun). BTW we spent an hour on Lake Iseo on the way to Bergamo airport. It was lovely and very untouristy.

I will look up Lago Iseo, unknown to me. We drove along the Brenta canal on a previous trip but didn't get the timing right for La Malcontenta. This time we visited it on a tour by burchiello.
It is refreshing to find someone else who is passionate about Vicenza and Palladio.

BTW qwovadis is was in Porto Cervo in July. Cross it off your list, is becoming (probably) always was, a god awful place. After our sixth visit to Sardinia, we will not be rushing back.
Corsica is the new Sardinia.
