If you could fly anywhere in the world
 

Hello!

My brother won two tickets to anywhere in the world (I am sure there are some limitations.) He doesn't like long flights. I think he could stand about 10 hours or so. Any suggestions?

I'm sure there are limitations such as airlines, perhaps? I can't stand very long flights either, although if it were totally free I'd go up to probably 12-14 hours. And if the tickets were first class, that would make a BIG difference.

Where does he live now, though?

Rio is about 9 hours from New York. Buenos Aires is 11 hours. Both are fantastic cities.

We had two "anywhere in the world United flies" tickets and went to Australia. Excellent choice!

No particular destination comes to my mind, but I know I would definitely go somewhere that I would otherwise not necessarily consider going, like China or Australia or South Africa or India - whether it was more than 10 hours on a plane or not. I'd treat it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

I'm with StCirq. I'd bite the bullet and go to someplace exotic and far away and pricey enough I'd never do it on my own. For me, Katmandu comes first to mind.

I'm certainly no fan of flying and hate long flights as I'm not one for sitting around. Still, we manage the occasional trip to Australia (just the LAX to SYD leg is around 14-15 hrs) and just got back from there last week. But that kind of trip gives a lot more value for those free tickets. And me, I take something so that I can sleep a solid 6 to 8 hrs mid-flight, so that the trip doesn't seem so long. You get on, get a meal, watch a movie, fall asleep, wake up, eat breakfast, walk around and ride it out for another couple of hours. It doesn't end up being that bad at all.

After watching the trilogy "Lord of the Rings", I would pick New Zealand--what beautiful vistas!! Then up to Australia, Phillipines, Fiji Islands.
You don't say where he is located so hard to know less than 10 hours: St. Petersburg; Berlin; Vienna.

That would be my dream to win those tickets!! So I would pick India..It is very expensive to fly there..I am in the process of booking a trip to India now and with 2 free tickets we could stay 2 months!!

I'm with the others - I'd go somewhere either where the regular airfare is cost prohibitive (I'd bite the bullet and suffer through a long flight), or someplace I wouldn't normally have had the chance to visit.

For me, that would be South America - living in China, it's an extremely long series of flights, and VERY expensive!

Clifton, that's more like it. I would venture to Kathmandu also. I must see Nepal and Mount Everest...better yet, fly over the mountains. That's my dream destination! I'm toying with the idea of training for a few years for the hike to Mt. Everest Base camp. I'm not interested in the summit (that's for those who've lost their minds)...everest base camp is more than enough of an adventure in one's lifetime.

My second choice at the other extreme...Bora Bora.

I would go to an Asian country because I have never been there.

It would be Tokyo for me, no matter how long the flight is.

Our plan is actually for Bhutan (late this year or next, depending on how we order trips). There's only a very small handful of cities from which you can fly to Bhutan - only two planes per day enter the country.

Kathmandu seems like such a natural place to combine with that trip and use as a portal city and stay within the Himalayas. But.... whew the costs of getting there from the US. More than twice the fare than to Bangkok by all search engines I've tried. I get a feeling that we'll be visiting a bit of Thailand instead. Still nice, but I'd sure love to see Everest as well (from the bottom or from a helicopter window!)

If I have two free tickets I would fly to Australia or New Zealand....never been there..
