If the reply to message is not on the page does that mean the thread was stopped?
 

I was trying to thank the people that were not mean in their reply to my thread about the jewish jewelery and the reply to message section was missing. Does this mean Fodor's doesn't want any more on this thread?

I ask the questions I think about. I don't have anyone else to talk to about any of this. And no matter what some mean people say, I will always come back for the nice people.

Yes. They have closed the thread, but not deleted it.

I don't know if this is the case here, but there have been times when I thought my posting hadn't gone through.
I learned to wait a moment, hit Refresh, and the thread appears updated.

Elaine, I think PLMN is talking about at the end of the thread there isn't even a place to click for "post a reply". There is no way to add anything. Fodors has decided enough is enough.

Yesterday I started a thread about why another thread that seemed totally civil had been "ended". My questioning thread had gotten a number of responses and then poof, that whole thread was completely deleated. So this one will probably disappear too. I don't think the powers above like us discussing how they do things.

Sometimes that situation (when the thread has no place to reply at the bottom) later changes back & you can add to it again. This was the case yesterday on an Amsterdam topic for awhile. My impression is it is a way to stop the thread until Fodors has time to review it (but I am just guessing by the way I've seen it work before).

From what I have heard in the past, Fodors thinks there is some sort of information for people on the thread, but since it has degenerated in some way, they freeze it to stop it from getting worse.
So you can still cull the good info from the unwanted trashing of a thread.

USNR, I agree totally. But when they stopped one thread that seemingly was totally about travel and had not had a single nasty slam, quoted material, or anything else that seemed to be against rules I was curious why. In addition to the post in which I asked why, which they deleted, I also emailed the editors and politely asked what it was about that thread that led to its demise. Guess what, they chose not to answer me directly, but deleted the thread discussing it.
Even the person supplying the bat and ball usually will explain what rule has been broken.

Patrick, are you saying you emailed directly to [email protected] and received no reply whatsoever? That is surprising to me, as I have always gotten a reply although it may take a few days. I would write again. You are a valuable contributor to this forum, not a troll or a troublemaker, so I can't believe you would not get the courtesy of a reply.

I really don't think Fodors has the time to personally answer every email they get about this board. It doesn't surprise me because I rarely get an answer from Fodors when I write them about this board. I haven't done it a lot, but I think they only responded once and that was several years ago when the board was younger.

In fact, I think that I don't even get an automated response any more saying they got my post -- not sure. Sometimes they have done what I asked (such as banning someone for advertising), although they never responded to me about it.

Marilyn. That is correct. I've emailed before and always gotten an answer, but not this time. It has only been two or three days, but I don't think it's ever taken that long before unless over a weekend.

Please don't laugh, but now I've forgotten what that "ended" post was. I was just surprised because it had a lot of responses and none were political or nasty and the thread really was very travel related. Can anyone help me out here, what the specific thread was? (God, I must be getting old.)

It was all about what kind of compensation should be expected from a hotel when something "dangerous" happens. It started with a story of someone stepping on a razor blade on the floor of their hotel room, under the bed skirt. There were a lot of posts, discussing various opinions about how much compensation should be expected from a hotel for various issues and if it should depend on whether injury actually occurred or just could have been possible.
In reviewing it after it was "ended" I really couldn't find a single thing that would be against the rules or policies of this board. Of course there were a couple of oddball posts like mentioning what the razor blade could have been used for, but nothing I would think would cause the thread to be controversial.

JoeG. They didn't delete the Olympics post but just ended it, as you say. If you go back and look at it, I'd have to agree that it had nothing to do with travel (except in the wildest stretch of imagination). The whole thread was started with a question about people being unimpressed with TV coverage of the Olympics and that's what it continued about -- not about traveling to the Olympics or hotel prices there, or anything else travel related. It ended up being a discussion of which network gives better coverage and a lot of comments about Katie Couric's dangling legs -- hardly travel fodder. I totally understand their reasoning in stopping that thread. I didn't see the follow up one that you say was deleted so I can't comment on that.

Around the same time they also completely deleted the thread "Getting Stoned in Amsterdam", which was totally related to travelling to Amsterdam. There was alot of excellent advice on what to look for and expect with your first coffeeshop experience, information that MANY American tourists could utilize.
