If only one restaurant in Rome?

After grabbing a FF deal I will be flying in and out of Rome in May. I have spent time in Rome before and will only be staying there the last night for convenience to the airport the next day. If you only had one night in Rome, what one restaurant would you want for your last meal in Italy? I am not looking to spend a fortune, I just want a good real Italian meal. One other thing I will throw out, my favorite restaurants are those with the antipasto plates of various marinated/grilled vegetables then pasta dishes/meat dishes. I also love those places that you don't order, you just get what they want you to have!! Thanks for any suggestions. I plan to book my hotel based on where we want to have dinner.

Based on your desire for antipasti, I vote for Hostaria Nerone, which is a very unpretentious neighborhood trattoria, but it has an excellent antipasti buffet and good pasta dishes as well I would reserve about a week in advance. You might be able to find their menu online, and if you can, look at it in advance, because unless you speak Italian, they are probably not going to choose for you or bring you food.

Had a look at the menu.

Any restaurant in Italy which offers Spaghetti alla Bolognese is to avoid.

If you want a restaurant without a menu, try Trattoria der Pallaro in the centro storico. It has a set price (25€ I think) and you eat what Signora Fazi is cooking that evening. It's simple but the food is excellent. I ate there several times on my last visit to Rome.

If you are looking to stay nearby, I recommend the Hotel Teatro di Pompeo next door (which is how I found the Trattoria). It's a small family hotel, very friendly and helpful and comfortable.

People always try to have these all-purpose "formulas" for eating in Italy -- don't eat near the tourist sights, don't eat where the menu is translated, don't eat where they serve Spaghetti alla Bolognese, don't eat in a restaurant with red-checked tablecloths -- but the reality is that there are good places to eat in Rome and all over Italy that break all those rules, and Hostaria Nerone is certainly one of them. You've never eating there, and you don't know what you are talking about.

much as I respect your suggestions you should know that Spaghetti alla Bolognese is an absolute NO NO. It does NOT exist in Italy other in tourist orientated restaurants.

I will be in Rome in 10 days time and will provide my selection of suitable locations.
