If not St. Tropez, where?
So - I have a day and night in my early August itinerary reserved for St. Tropez. Despite my best web and book sleuthing efforts, it is completely impossible to locate a hotel under 500 Euro anywhere nearby. (And even at that rate there is only 1 - maybe 2 hotels left)
I've decided to throw in the towel and am looking for suggestions as to where I can spend the night instead. The town before will be Cassis, after will be Nice. Any suggestions for another town in the area which might be nice to try for a day? Close enough to travel to St. Tropez for a bit would be nice - but certainly not a priority. Any and all advice would be appreciated! Thanks! |
You'll be ideally places for staying in Le Lavandou, which has a lovely beach. It's about halfway between St-Tropez and Cassis.
We like staying up in the hills at the pretty little town of Bormes-les-Mimosas; the Mirage is a nice hotel. |
"PlaceD." Sorry.

St Maxime perhaps? You can take a boat to St Tropez (so you won't have to stand in bumper to bumper traffic for at least an hour on the short road to St Tropez in August). Sorry, no specific recommendations.

We're paying quite a bit less than 500E to stay at the Hotel de Lices in St Tropez.
http://www.hoteldeslices.com/saint_tropez/chambres.html And we're staying there because our "usual place" did not respond to FAXes when we tried to contact them in Dec. http://w4-web201.nordnet.fr/lou-troupelen/ Stu Dudley |
Cassis was like St Tropez was before it became a jet-setter's destination.

Have you checked on the fun Hotel Sube right on the port? Way less than 500euro unless it's already fully booked.
|
Try St. Maxime - a quick boat ride gets you to St. Tropez. Bormes les Mimosas, Lavendou, Cavalaire, Port Grimaid - all little towns west of St. Tropez and not as far west as Cassis. And so many towns East of St. Tropez (some offer ferry services)...Cannes, Antibes, Nice.

Thanks for the great responses! I'll look into Le Lavandou and St. Maxime.
I should have been more specific - I did check a TON of hotels that are reasonably priced. Unfortunately, all the hotels that I have found in a <500E price range are either booked or have a 5 night minimum during high season. Hotel de Lices was actually my first choice, but is completely booked. So sad! :( I haven't tried the Hotel Sube - but only because I can't seem to find any contact information on their site. Any email/phone info would be much appreciated! |
Ramateulle is near St-Tropez and sicharming. overlooking the sea, near beaches, etc.

Hello! How long is the travel time between Saint Tropez and Nice via car? Thanks!!
|
If you take the autoroute and leave St-Tropez early in the morning so as to miss the sometimes horrendous traffic out of the town, a couple of hours. The coastal road, however, takes longer but is quite scenic.
