IDP to drive in Ireland?

Going to Ireland next week and will have a rental car. Do I need an international driving permit as I do in Italy? Thanks.

I don't believe so. I have never been asked for one. Have a great time. It is a wonderful, beautiful, friendly country.

Since an IDP is merely a translation of your license (presumably it is in english) it would not be required in Ireland.

(FWIIW rental agencies - even in countries where IDPs are required- seldom ask for them. They don't care - it is the police/authorities who would want to see them if one had an accident or infraction.)

The IDP isn't required, but you need to check you rental car insurance coverage.
