Ideas on best villages in Tyrol

Hi,

I'm planning to spend a month in Austrian alps this summer with a 6 years old child.
Any suggestions on the best villages to rent a house/apartment?

I would like it to be a very beautiful place where I could stay, hike around, and maybe even swim if there is a lake nearby, but also be able to go for day trips.

Thank you,

L

The ony Tyrolian swimming lakes which deserve this name are
Kalterersee http://www.kalterersee.eu/en/the-lake.html
Achensee http://achensee.info/en/
Alpbachtal Lakes http://www.alpbachtal.at/en/summer/lakes-and-pools

Thanks for the info.
Do you have any thoughts for particular villages which would be really beautiful to stay at for a few weeks taking little trips outside?

Just spent 3 nights in Virgen at a B & B Schlossnerhof -- enjoyed it a lot -- the family that runs it is fantastic -- they did have an ajointing building that had a swimming pool -- we did not use it, but you might ask what it costs, etc.

One of the most scenic villages in the Tirol is Seefeld. Easy to get to from Innsbruck via train. You can also use the train to get to nearby Mittenwald and Garmisch in germany for day trips.

Another good option is Mayrhofen which you can also get to via train. From here it is easy to use the train and busses for day trips to the HIntertux glacier and the Achensee lake. Mayrhofen also has very reasonable priced accomodation in the summer and the food and drink prices are also reasonable compared to other Alpine countries

TO be honest though I wouldn't stay in one particular village for a whole month. You may run out of things to do unless you like to do lots of walking day after day. Why not split your month into 2 X 2 weeks and stay in two separate villages and areas. The first two weeks you could stay in the Tirol and the second two weeks you could stay in the Salzburg area or over the border in the Italian dolomites
