I hope I can tag on to this Shropshire thread as my mom and I plan to visit there in September. Our plan is to stay in Ludlow (after a many-stopped drive down from Betws-y-Coed in Wales) on Sept. 21st. Reading this thread has given me more thoughts of things to see and do, including walks, in this area but we need to fly out of LHR the evening of the 23rd. So my question is: could we afford to spend a 2nd night (the 22nd) in Ludlow and drive to LHR the 23rd? Or would it be more prudent to head further East for the night of the 22nd (say Cotswolds? which we did visit 3 years ago) to be closer to LHR?

I am not an expert on driving in this area or anything. But LHR is a bit of an event, I personally think I would feel more comfortable being closer. Depends on time of flight and your ease with everything else, returning car, etc.
