You're going next week, and you don't have a hotel reservation yet? You'll definitely need to look to smaller towns, most likely in the northern half of the lake. Good luck.

Several Fodorites recommend eating at this place: http://www.comacina.it/isola/locanda_eat.htm

Check with Menaggio area. GH Menaggio or the Bellavista.

The most complete intetnet listing that I have found for Lake Como hotels is on the CiaoCiaoItaly website (if it still exists). All it gives is star rating, name, and a phone number. I can't endorse any of those hotels.

You need to tell us what price rasnge or stars you are looking for (you mentined Villa D'este in another post).

If you are leaving the mid-lake area, then you should look at the frequency of the scheduled boat service, unless you are think more about driving. August might not be good for driving around Lake Como.

There is a travel agent office in Varenna near the train station. Someone on this site might know how to contact them.

Travel agent in Bellagio - www.icbellagio.com. There is a travel agent in Varenna but I don't know how to contact them directly.

This is absolute peak season for Lake Como. You will not have many choices.

The towns of Lecco and Como are more business oriented, so in a pinch accomodations might be available in those towns.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

jbh555,

Hopefully you have returned.

I am curious where you decided to stay.

Thanks
