Ideas for drive from Munich to Ramstein/Kaiserslautern to Garmisch

My husband and I will be landing in Munich in October. I want to go to the Ramstein area as I lived there as a teenager when my father was stationed there in the Air Force. I really want to see it again. It is out of the way of where we will be spending most of our trip in the Garmisch/Berectsgaden/Salzburg area. Any suggestions on things to see along the way from Munich to Ramstein and then on the drive from Ramstein to Garmisch? Thanks in advance for any help. It has been 37 years since I have been to Germany and my husband has never been, we are very excited!

I was stationed in Landstuhl near Ramstein in the 1970's myself. Hope you enjoy your visit back.

There is a lot of country between Munich and Ramstein. I am not sure what you would like best. I suggest finding a Michelin Green to research possibilities as it is designed for road trips.

Some suggestions might include: Augsburg, Nördlingen, Schwäbisch Hall, Heidelberg, Speyer, etc. You could linger in the Black Forest going either direction. You might also just take autobahns to get there fast and spend the time day tripping in Ramstein area. The Pfalz is not known as a major tourist destination but the country side is very attractive to my taste.

On your direct route are Augsburg, Ulm, then more or less Esslingen, Tübingen and Ludwigsburg, Karlsruhe, Bruchsal, Speyer, more or less Heidelberg and Worms. Your way back would be the same until Ulm from where you pass Ottobeuren and Memmingen driving towards Garmisch.
You don't specify how long the stops in between are supposed to be, a city like Augsburg takes obviously more time, visiting a palace like in Bruchsal or the cathedral and the Jewish cemetery in Worms less.
