Ideas for a first time visitor to Europe
 

Hey all,

This will be my first time going to Europe and I need some ideas on what to do.

My trip looks something like this

November

17th Arrive Munich Explore ? ideas
18th Munich / Concert at night(Tool)
19th Vienna / Concert at night(Tool)
20th Vienna ? Ideas
21st Frankurt possible opening to ideas
22nd Amsterdam (the cup)
23rd Amsterdam (ThanksGiving)(the Cup)
24th Amsterdam/Belgium ? Ideas
25th Amsterdam ? Ideas
26th Leaving from Amsterdam

Any helpful suggestions on places to see and do would be appreciated.

Im planning on visiting atleast one museum a day in each city I vist,
and any idea on what I should expect the weather to be like.

I think you are trying to do way too much for a 9 day trip, so trim it back a bit. IMO, for such a short trip you should choose the 2 cities you want to see most and stick with that. Since it's your first time in Europe, you probably don't realize that your first day of the trip will be toast because jet lag is such a killer.

You mentioned museums and all of the cities you named have great museums. You also spoke of concerts, and Vienna is a great place for music lovers. Based on what little I know, it sounds like Munich and Vienna are best for you. But have you already bought your plane ticket, going into Munich and out of Amsterdam? Please forgive my ignorance, but I don't know what "the Cup" is. :-[ If Amsterdam is a must, I think you should choose between Munich and Vienna.

Thanksgiving will be a non-issue as it's an American holiday not celebrated in Europe.

Munich and Amsterdam are the two places im most intreasted in.

Im only going to vienna to see the concert, and since im there i might as well see something.

and i understand that first day will be just me trying to get over the jetlag.

Ill most likely head the next day back to munich then head to amsterdam on the 21st but it really depends on my mood

Frankfurt is just a stop over becuase of the long train ride i dont want to to it all in one trip so most of the 21st will be spent in vienna if i decide to stay and then catch the late tram ride and then head out of frankfurt in the morning.

so my trip looks more like the
17 & 18 Munich
19 & 20 Vienna
21 head to frankfurt in the evening
22nd leave in the morning to amsterdam
22, 23, 24 , 25 Amsterdam

Ill be at the cannabis cup for thanksgiving in amsterdam
and will just probably stay there the the rest of my days which is about 4 days

I think you've got it right, and you can always improvise on your way to the cup if you choose to.

You'll have a great time in Amsterdam, and I trust you have made use of the dozens of internet sites that can help you with where to stay and what to do while you are there?

No travel partner? Oh well, you'll find companionship at the cup!

Two nights in Vienna...not enough by a long shot for this beautiful city. Skip it till you can invest more time.

Going to Vienna take the round tram. I thinks its number 2 (one goes clockwise the other widershins) and it follows the old city walls (all gone now) round. Cost a couple of euros and since vienna is pretty small then gives you a good idea of where you are.

Frankfurt, frankly my dear, drop it for a first visit.

Amsterdam a much better idea, loads to do and again the city centre is walkable (or take trams)

Since time is so short, have you considered flying from either Munich or Vienna to Amsterdam?

Fortunately, you have a few months to figure all of this out. Learn to use Bahn.de and Citynightline.ch.

For Munich to Vienna, you can purchase online from the Bahn a Europa-Special ticket on a EuroCity train from Munich to Vienna for €29 per person.

You can find it by using the query page, http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en, for any of the EC connections from Munich to Vienna.

Coming back from Vienna to Amsterdam, City Night Line, www.citynightline.ch, sells tickets from Vienna to Amsterdam. The night train leaves Vienna at 10:28 at night. You change trains to an ICE in Frankfurt at 6 AM and arrive in Amsterdam at 11 AM. The price booked directly from CNL is as low as €149. However, you can book the night train from Vienna to Frankfurt from CNL for €69 and the ICE from Frankfurt to Amsterdam separately from Bahn.de for €39 - €108 per person total.
