Ideas for 2-day stop in Germany?

Hello,
daughter is on her way to Munich, and has a 2-day window between her time there and heading to Nuremberg to see a friend. (I'm helping since she has no internet for a couple days.) She came up with a few possibilities- Augsburg, Berchtesgarden, Fussen, Salzburg, Heidelberg... but doesn't know much about them. I guess she has a day or two extra on her railpass.

I'll pass any suggestions on to her, and she can check them out. thanks!

Salzburg is always a great place to spend a couple of days. Lots of historical buildings, music, gardens, etc.

In Berchtesgaden, you can visit Hitler's Eagle's Nest and the Dokumentation Center as well as hikes and a boat ride on the Koenigsee.

These would be my choices from the cities you named but Bavaria is full of amazing places.

I've only been to Salzburg and Heidelberg. Both are nice but my favourite is Salzburg (one of my favourite places yet - see my other posts with trip reports including Salzburg)

thanks for the replies. Didn't mean to imply it had to be one of those cities, those were just thoughts, and not really working out, as far as rail pass being for Germany, lack of hostels, etc.

She can't visit her friend in Nuremberg until the weekend, and it seems like Fussen is more a day trip.

Any ideas for a cool town(s) in Germany that a young person would enjoy, and that also would have hostels? Not too much to ask, we hope!! We're talking a place for her to leave for tomorrow!

Hi N,

Munich is worth 2 days.

What's her hotel budget?

Ditto on Munich!

Or for a day..Garmish/Mittenwald area.
or maybe Rothenburg (near Nuremberg)

Not sure about Hostels but there is a very nice place to stay in Rothenburg at a good price.

Just wanted to report back. She actually was in Munich for 5 days, so had plenty of time to enjoy it. She decided on Salzburg, and I hear- from a quick message- that she's enjoying it. Her budget is hostels, and that's working well so far. Plus she was able to use her German rail pass for Salzburg, so she didn't even have to buy another train ticket. I appreciate all your responses!

And her friend of a friend in Nuremberg has a whole weekend of activities planned, so that's nice-
