Idea for Saturday afternoon near Heathrow?
I'm looking for places to visit tomorrow afternoon that are easy to reach from Heathrow. Is the tube to central London the best choice? Have been to London before, so am looking for other ideas before my departure from Heathrow early Sunday am. I will have most of Saturday afternoon and the evening. Thanks for any suggestions.

You can do either London (easy by tube) or Windsor (easy by bus)
Just depends on if you'd rather to go into the city again or see the castle. The Piccadilly tube line goes from LHR to the very center of London w/o any changes. Or you can take the bus and get off in the center of Windsor just down from the Castle. |
Re: Windsor. In case your return is too late for the bus, you can taxi from Windsor to Heathrow, a 20 minute ride, for about L15.

Hampton Court Palace is within easy reach of Heathrow. You can take the bus (111) from Heathrow central. There are some restaurants and pubs close by and it is a very pleasant area to spend an afternoon although it has been somewhat rainy. I believe you can take the ferry further down the river to Kingston (there's a market on Saturday) or Richmond. Or you can walk from Hampton Court to Kingston along the River Thames

I like the idea of Windsor too. If you don't want to tour the expensive castle, you can walk in Windsor Great Park. Also are some nice shops in Windsor, and be sure to go over the pedestrian bridge to the Eton side. A few good pubs - we like the Waterman's Arms (Eton side) and the Two Brewers (at the entrance to WGPark.) It's an easy bus or taxi ride from LHR.

Thanks so much for your help. Windsor made a delightful afternoon. Thanks again.
