ID for Scavi & Vatican

Do we need our passports as a "valid identification" for the Vatican and Scavi Tours? Or is a US drivers license or copy of passport ok?

We usually don't carry our passports with us.

Yes, your US driver's license should suffice. When I checked in for my Scavi tour, I had the printed e-mail confirmation, handed it to the clerk, gave my name, and frankly, he didn't even request ID.

Thanks, I will have the printed email confirmations. Bruno at Eternal City Tours also said Driver's license is ok (incredibly patient man, have emailed him multiple times with questions!)

I did not need any identification for the Vatican. The Scavi tour asked for an ID just to check the booking, but I doubt they would have held us back if we hadn't brought it.

There is no ID needed for the Vatican (St Peter;s or the Museums) - only the behind the scenes tours.

The Scavi tour did not ask for our ID, just checked the time on the booking.
